Updated the list.
--------------------------------------------------------
I’ve restructured the list to give readers a better idea of how many votes the highly ranked games have received. This should also (in the meantime) reduce the number of games reaching the “essential” category.
Whilst unlikely, it is possible that a game has accidentally been removed from the list during this process. If the case, as soon as someone adds a vote for that game it’ll be reinstated as I’ve got the previous list to refer to.
I have also removed all the games that have less than 3 votes to shorten the overall list. This is the “essential list” after all and I want to ensure that only games that have appealed to more than one person is included.
Sure some games don’t get the votes they deserve but when it’s less than 3 maybe it’s a case of your opinion differing from the (very large) majority. Once enough votes have been given to these games they’ll reappear on the page (so I still have all games listed, but you won’t be able to see those with less than 3 votes).
--------------------------------------------------------
Another (temporary) change is the removal and shuffling of some of the category titles (“Noteworthy” and “Other Games”). With another category being added during the split up of categories (read first paragraph) I felt that it was time to freshen up the names a little (they probably weren’t the best titles to begin with anyway). If someone’s able to come up with new category names feel free to suggest them by posting in this thread.
The order goes:
Essential Games (50+ votes) > Recommended Games (31-50 votes) > ??? Games (16-30 votes) > ??? Games (7-15 votes) > Other Games (3-6 votes) > Hidden games not on list (less than 3 votes)
--------------------------------------------------------
I WOULD like to add more features to the list, including the genres of each game but it’s just too much work for me to do. IF you were able to help out with the process then gradually I’ll begin to implement it to the list. An example of how it’d (most likely) appear is like so:
Genre Key: RPG Games - [RPG]
etc.
Essentials List
Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow [PLATFORMER]
Mario Kart DS [RACING]
New Super Mario Bros. [PLATFORMER]
Phoenix Wright / Apollo Justice (Ace Attorney series) [ADVENTURE]
Pokemon Pearl/Diamond/ Platinum [RPG]
The World Ends With You [RPG]
Trauma Center: Under the Knife 1 and 2 [ACTION]
Zelda: Phantom Hourglass [ACTION ADVENTURE]
So if you were to help, select 5 or so games from the list (preferably in the same order as how it is listed) and add its genre in the format: [GENRE] next to the game name. As of now this is the best solution that I can think of (unless someone else can think of a feasible alternative). If 20 people did 10 games we’d more or less have the entire list filled out with their genre’s in no time at all.
