I'd rather pay more money and get it from a reputable shop like game or amazon. I'm never ordering from toys r us again since they didn't let me return a 2 week old ps2, what kind of customer service is that. Game and Amazon you got a year.

Actually by law you have a year's warantee on any electronic device under the terms of the Sale of Goods Act. They try to bullshit you by talking about 'company policy' but those policies are not above the law. Just name drop the Sale of Goods Act or Trading Standards and you'll find most people back down and give you a refund/exchange. If not, if the item is not fit for the purpose it was bought for, then get Trading Standards in there, they're free and they always win.

Note that this only applies to goods which are faulty through manufacturer defect/faulty when bought/not fit for purpose.

I work at HMV and you have no idea how many times people have tried to bring back stuff they just didn't want or 'bought for a present and they already have it' and started angrily name-dropping the Sale of Goods Act at us. Not realising that the Act they think gives them the right to a refund on something they just don't won't, actually states a shop only has to offer something of equal value (ie. an exchange for a different game/CD/movie or store credit on a gift card). Refunds are only for faulty stuff, or stuff that breaks down and hasn't lasted a 'reasonable amount of time'.

Example - my iPod Touch died yesterday, and I've only it had it two months. Two months is not a reasonable amount of time for something like that to last, so I'm fully entitled to a refund. (I want another one though.

It scares me how ignorant people actually are of sales laws. They either know so little they get shafted over by lazy sales people trying to get out of doing a refund, or the *think* they know everything and get angry at staff and start ranting about how they "know their rights" and we have to give them a refund.

Just worth knowing that simply throwing around the Sale of Goods Act and threatening Trading Standards to get involved is no good and will have you laughed out of the store by staff unless you're actually in the right.
