Hi, someone just gave me a korean wii. Serial number starting with LKM 1051 and the system menu 3.3U. i was wondering if i can soft mod this wii. and which guide shld i follow. I done some research and seen people saying that korean wii cannot be softmod only hard modded. and there was the LU64+ wii. not sure if my wii falls into this catergory. is it worth it to upgrade to 4.0 first then mod if modding is possible or shld i downgrade to 3.2U? cause newer games require the newer iso?

Well... I don't know too much 'bout Korean Wii's, but if it is an LU64+ equivilant Wii, (which I doubt, because it's on 3.3)
NEVER EVER ! TRY TO DOWNGRADE I TO 3.2 IF IT'S AN LU64+ !!! YOU WILL BRICK !!

    Downgrading isn't required anymore anyways....

What you should try, is to install Bootmii and see if you can install it to Boot2. (see step 1 and 2 of my sig) If so.. make a Nand backup before you start messing around with your Wii.

If you are not able to install Bootmii as Boot2, treat it as it were a LU64+.

So, you will only get the option to install as IOS..

Just try step 1 and 2 of my sig. It's pretty save....

You have to use a GCN controller to navigate it.

well you said you could only install bootmii as an ios, so really there isnt much point taking a nand backup anyway, as it doesnt offer any form of brick protection. only bootmii as boot2 offers brick protection.

btw, as for navigating the menu, when its installed as an ios, your only option is a gamecube controller, as the power and reset button methods of navigation dont work when its installed as an ios (as far as i remember)

how exactly are you even getting into bootmii as an ios without the homebrew channel btw? or did you get it installed?

    [edit]

the only other half decent anti brick program that springs to my mind is preloader, which doenst work on korean wiis either afaik

its not that you cant backup your wii, you can make as many backups as you wish. the problem lies in the fact that to access bootmii you need to be able to get into the homebrew channel via the system menu. if you brick your wii, you have no means of doing this, and as such have no means of being able to restore your wii.

if you already have the homebrew channel installed, you may be able to use the trucha bug restorer to patch ios36, and then install cios, but im not sure on this. perhaps post your question in the trucha bug restorer thread, or hopefully wait for someone more knowledgeable on korean wii's to reply.
