ROM Hack Newb Question regarding .sav files

Hey there, not sure where to ask this. Sorry if this is the wrong thread.

My question is related to the NDS Pokemon .sav files. Are the .sav files cross version compatible? Like, could I run Pokemon White with a Pokemon Black .sav file or Pokemon Heartgold with Soulsilver .sav file? Would I be able to do that?

Haven't ever tried (did you, in the meanwhile? ), but as long as you limit yourself to the "opposite version" it should mostly work fine, except maybe version-specific story parts (like the cover legendary before the 8th gym)

this will most likely cause problems with some cases for example soul silver and heartgold. (IN SS there is the lugia event, while in HG there is the HO HO event)

however in diamond and pearl the only issue would be if you already caught the legendary, you would have the other cartridge legendary in the box (as the pokemon you own is stored in other region) and the event for that legendary is already caught, so you can't get both palkia and dialga for example
THIS, if the games use the same switches in the saves...

you will most likely need to edit the ID the save belongs to (if there is any)

i dunno bout the ds ones but sun and moon cross over fine. (did it by accident )
