We're touching the new, slimmer Xbox 360 right now at the Microsoft E3 event, and we've got more details on the console and its hardware. The new Xbox has touch-sensitive on/off and eject buttons and built-in 802.11n wi-fi. There are ports for optical audio, A/V, HDMI, and a custom port for the Kinect connection, as well as five USB ports. Only the standard A/V cables come with the system, so the HDMI cable is still seperate. The power supply is all new and much smaller, and the console itself is "whisper quiet," with just one large fan instead of two, placed specifically on the side of the console to improve acoustics. The system makes a little chime when you flip it on as well, and the disc drive still sounds the same when it spins up.

The hard drive is 250GB, and there's a tab on the bottom that you can pull out to replace it if necessary. Transfer software is built into the system this time, so all you have to do is plug one end of the cable into the system, the other end into the hard drive, and then transfer away -- no disc needed. The case is black and glossy, smaller and thinner than the white version. The console will come with one wireless controller, and that controller will be backwards compatible with previous versions of the hardware. All of the accessories are black, including the chatpad. It feels lighter to hold than the original Xbox -- not that you'd be moving it around much.

We're continuing to prod and poke at the new hardware -- stay tuned for more details on the new Xbox 360 as E3 continues this week.

The big issue is the custom port on the back for Natal, preumably this means existing XBOX 360's are not compatible with Natal?

We know they removed some of the hardware elements of Natal to software running on the 360, taking up around 10% of the 360's processing. Is it possible these new XBOX's could be clocked 10% higher to compensate?

So.. is it a regular HDD? like the on a PC uses, PS3 and the works? or is it still a expensive microsoft one?

I recall them saying natal is compatible with 40 million units at the conference. Im not sure if thats all of the 360 units but u dont need a special console for flail fest.

It will probably have a USB connection to original Xbox 360s that connects to a separate Kinect port.

The older 360's used standard 2.5" SATA HDD that could be replaced anyway.

No, you had to buy a special Microsoft one

Google it and you'll see you can. Basically you take off the old drive, open up the container that houses it and replace it with another 2.5" hard drive.

Looks nice, but I hope they make a matte white or black one. I hate that gloss finish that everyone seems to be obsessed with using these days.

I happen to like the gloss finish. It looks shiny and stuff.

It looks nice now, but finger prints and other smudges will make it look shitty over time.

That^

And if they went back to matte... it would look too much the same. I WANT A GREEN ONE

I am considering upgrading. But I wonder if this will be bundled with kinetic for a special price Nov. 4th.
