Hello guys,
I booted up my 3ds after years of not touching it, I updated it tot 11.9 and wanted to homebrew it with the use of steelhax. I followed the steps from a video but when I boot the sub wars game on, my screen just gets black.
In my sd-card are the folders of luma and boot.firm which where not in the video, maybe that's the problem.
I really don't know anything of homebrew and al these CFW. I never really acceses homebrew myself so I really don't know what to do haha.
Can anybody help me with this problem? :)
(As I said I'm a real homebrew noob, so if these steps can be clarified with some easy words I would really appreciate it)
Thanks for the help!

I just got a New 2DS XL about 2 days ago, updated to 11.9.whatever, and did this myself - the 3ds.hacks.guide guide is perfect, I had no issues - and it's extremely detailed already. It really can't be simplified any more that I can see.

So you're up to the part from the guide where you boot the injected save file? Or are you booting the game for the first time?

Only thing I can think of is that you missed something, or did something extra that you shouldn't have (e.g. installed the Sub Wars update - you shouldn't do this). Try starting over again from scratch, being really careful.

Or maybe the microSD is damaged, or you didn't format it with FAT32 and 32KB allocation/cluster size?

Following a video might be the problem. Use the Steelhax guide instead (followed by the Frogminer guide to get full CFW). Your SD should look like this for Steelhax:
SD:
├─── 3ds
│.....├──steelhax_installer
│.....│.....├── steelhax_installer.3dsx
│.....│.....├── steelhax_installer.smdh
│.....│.....├── steelhax_installer.xml
├─── boot.3dsx
├─── Nintendo 3ds
│.....├── [ID0]
│.....│.....├──[…omitting the content of the normal Nintendo folder…]
├── steelhax
│.....├── code.bin
│.....├── payload.bin
│.....└── rop.bin

Any additional files/folders will not cause problems. But...
In my sd-card are the folders of luma and boot.firm which where not in the video, maybe that's the problem.
Do you already have CFW installed? In this case Steelhax will not work (and is useless anyway).
Steelminer Guide said:
* I get a solid black screen
You already have Luma3DS. Check by booting while holding (Select)
So... boot your 3DS holding (SELECT) and see if you get the Luma settings. If you already have CFW it will say:
Luma3DS v??? configuration
on the top of the upper screen. The next steps depend on the version number.

If I press select when booting and exactly ass you say I get a menu with on top luma3ds v9.1 (I see this for the first time now)
What you want me to do now?? :)

You're almost done! CFW is installed; Luma is latest version. All good. You can forget about Steelhax, Frogminer...

All you need is the finalizing page of the guide. This will install the essential homebrew software and make the Homebrew Launcher accessible from the normal Home Menu (like any game). The only thing not mentioned on the finalizing page is boot.3dsx. Check if you already have it on the SD.

Have fun. If you have any other questions, just ask.

I can't help myself. That typo is really good.
