Probably just found the R4 packaging and stickers then started slapping them on N5s.

65USD a pop too.

DX won't carry them; not unless the ESA has called off its DMCA witch-hunt, which seems unlikely.

The pictures are from the old one; I've asked Volumerate for some more details and some more recent pictures, and whether they're sourcing these direct from Team R4.

I'm betting these are the "Upgrade-II" (the supposed fake) version with the same hardware as the n5/e7/"fake R6".

It's interesting that R4 seem remarkably silent on this matter.

As I know, there is a fake R4 card going to the market. Please be careful.

Anyway, as my point of view, DX and volumerate is not a good supplier although their price is cheaper. You can know more about it by their customers' comment of DX's forum.

I wouldn't recommend getting any kind of flashcart from dx/volume rate UNLESS you know that they are Definitely in stock, I waited a month for my supercard and that was pretty short compared to some of the other poor peeps.

"The IC is bigger".

What on earth does this mean?

Well, if we were dealing with people who we knew were accurate and who had some idea of what was inside the original cartridges, it would mean that the IC in the cartridge was, well, larger than the original R4's IC.

Given that most people here probably know more about the internals of the R4 than your average VolumeRate staffer, it probably means that there's a bulge out the label side of the R4 that people would notice.

Here's the question I asked Volumerate:

Subject: Are these REALLY from Team R4, or the fake "Upgrade-II" version that's been circulating?
SKU: 1202

Are these new ones the so-called "R4DS Upgrade-II" version, and if so are you getting them directly from Team R4? The reason I ask is that there is CONSIDERABLE confusion in the marketplace over the likes of the n5 and e7 and a fake R6 and an "R4DS Upgrade-II" product that have been confirmed to use the same hardware.

More recent photographs of this actual version of the product would be appreciated, as would photographs of its internals (*both* sides of the board) in order to minimise the chance of confusion with unauthorised clone products.

Here's the response I got:

QUOTE
We got this also from the R4 supplier.

They said the only difference is this one's chip will be a little bigger than the original one.

That's the only info we got from them.

Regards,

Alex

Doesn't really answer much, does it? Whilte it's clear that they are gettng these from the same place they got the R4, they still haven't indicated whether that was direct from R4.

the supplier is the same of fake r4 cards, but now is going to produce these card that use 2 IC , one smaller and one bigger and can use the original R4 card kernel . But price is relative high.
