Updated first post with some new info.
Would it be possible for you edit the code section so it doesn't stretch the page? And why code instead of say quote or spoiler tags?

Fixed thanks
Much better, thanks.

change your primary dns, on the ps3, to

Primary DNS: 67.202.81.137

this will allow online access without updating
thanks for the tip, works fine
a little on the slow side though..

when you say slow, do online games lag?

Stuff like this has always been interesting to me. Might buy another PS3 from a pawn shop to experiment. Not too much Sony can do about that.

I'm kind of curious what all (in how, which won't be easily made public obviously) they patched. Did they remove the capability completely of retail PS3s to be dropped into dev mode using their dongle let alone this pirated wannabe legit dongle or what? Or was it just a direct snipe at these things someone will get into a push and shove fight over making it go, sony plugs it, it goes again...wash rinse repeat. Hopefully for Sony they got smart and just removed the ability to run dev mode in any form legit tools or not on a stock unit. Probably would piss off some licensees if they were going that route instead of a pricey dev kit, but as it goes shit happens.
Not a fan of homebrew I take it?

If Sony did make it so you'd need a legit tool to run the PS3 in dev mode then someone will go the illegal route and pirate the dongle instead of using a overflow exploit.

I'm not really trusting them at the moment, but if hackers are already in the PS3 then this patch is worthless; it'll only be a matter of time before the firmware is decoded and the necessary files taken from it, etc etc.

"The team thinks PSjailbreak out an update next week, not compatible with the clones"

Wow, really? That's great. Because the PSjailbreak dongle isn't dead or anything

Trying to make us pay $100+ for this lmao.

This is what's going to happen

Someone is going to make this update work on clones to the point where the jailbreak team gets sick of it and drops the project completely, then what? All I know is, I'm not buying the PSjailbreak dongle.

You are implying that their intent wasn't just to get the initial investment by suppliers and fucking run.

True

@Crazzy1: the DNS trick works fine. No need to update for online.

Agreed

I thought the dongle couldn't be upgraded. Well, the people who reverse engineered the dongle said so

It seems promising tho, but i kinda doubt a update will come out or a new unit. I really hope I'm wrong.

I thought Geohotz already got into the system, and it was released already... there is no firmware modification of anykind that I am aware of though.... well besides his unreleased Linux support.
It'll probably happen, but I dont think it will happen soon.
