Hi guys,
I've been late here trying to fix the problem.
Finally in my case, it was not the charging chip. What I did was connect the battery and the charger. When turning on it did not turn on. I was disconnecting all the flexes 1 by 1. Finally when I disconnected the flex from the camera, the black one, the console turned on. I connected everything again except the camera and magic! the console turned on. I got a new camera on ebay and now my console is alive again

I'm assuming charge ic isn't dead while daughter is rip?
Might be. Have a look as well at the ribbon between the 2 boards, the ribbon connectors on both cards. There could be "invisible" damage if not removing and checking the ribbon.

Hello everyone, I had a problem with my New 3DS XL because of a mistake I made, I reversed the battery when I was doing maintenance, I changed the daughter board, it worked, however, it did not charge the battery anymore, it only worked connected to the power.

I had an idea, but I wanted to see if there was someone who had already done the same to be sure if it would work, but I didn't find anything, I decided to take a chance and it worked, 3DS completely repaired, what I did was install one of these TP4056 modules, there are already 2 I've been using it for months and it's charging normally.

I'll post a picture of how I did it

Obviously, behind the plaque, it is isolated so as not to touch the motherboard directly and I removed the USB port from the TP4056 module so that the height was low and it could fit comfortably when closing the 3DS.

yes that works, but please insulate that chip or you will potentially short something on the MB

Currently i charge the battery external using this module also. TP4056 charge the battery at 4.2v 1~A constant i think thats too high amp because took faster to charge compare charging normally. (Base on my memories cant really verify this. Correct me if im wrong).

Does your current setup has any problem? Like playing while charge works? Does the battery puffing long term? Im thinking doing the same as you too.

Mine current 3DS problem it wont accept charge. The orange light come up like 3 second and gone. I think

I decided to open it and try install the TP4056 inside too. Before that i check the diode and fuse, both are ok, reseat the ribbon. and give it another try before doing the procedure..... Works fine now. the ribbon is loose i guess

Update (20/2/2021): It happened again. idk what the problem anymore. cant fix using previous method anymore

In short I'm in the same boat and I tried to buy one chip but the links in this thread are outdated I'll attach a pic from my new 3ds xl motherboard. I want to know if this chip will work or not

I'll be grateful of any advice thanks

it's the same as the ones from regular 3ds.

It's the chip on the link right? I don't know what regular 3ds are anyways. I'm very noob I did yesterday my first solder to the zig of bottom screen backlight :)

just a little update

I got the 3ds working again, I replaced the daughter board, and power is back on,

however, like vb_encryption_vb said, the charging doesn't work, it recognizes the battery, and recognizes the charger but won't allow the battery to charger.

I brought it to one legendary technician in our area (man, his skillz are godly, from gb, nes, xb1, xbox360, ps2/ps3/ps4 repairs).
he was able to trace that it was the charging ic that is busted and not supplying power to the battery/charge line.

the ic was surfacemounted, he replaced it (from a dead brick 3ds/parts), off went his hotair and the smd ic was transferred from one to the other and charging is now okay! :)
it's location is just left of the fuse, below the charging port. surrounded by several resistors and capacitors.
why didn't it work tho? just curious, when i fixed mine the charging worked just fine (light and battery charging) so what went wrong with yours? did you put the battery in wrong when the charger was plugged in?

this is an 8year old post, and it didn't work because the charging ic was affected and the charge ic had to be replaced.

So, I tried the same TP4056 thing on my New 3DS XL(only damaged the charging IC, battery IC was fine since the system booted without an issue)

But now, the system won’t boot. Interestingly, +/- terminals are bridged for some reason…..

Am I out of luck and would need a replacement board, or would there be something I can do to fix it

Hey just want to say thanks to this post. I was able to revive my 3DS after replacing the daughter board and charging IC. (Though my mistakes during fixing damaged a cable connector and the bottom screen so I had to replace them as well.) I made a Reddit post titled to record my experience if it helps anyone. I am not allowed to add links here as a new user in this forum, but you should be able to find my Reddit post by searching "Finally revived my 3ds died from reversed battery polarity".

Pay attention if you need to purchase BQ24072. You are likely to find on selling website, e.g. DigiKey, four ICs with similar part numbers: BQ24072RGTR, BQ24072RGTT, BQ24072TRGTR, BQ24072TRGTT. The former two are both BQ24072 whereas the latter two are BQ24072T. BQ24072 and BQ24072T have different thermistor circuits. 3DS uses BQ24072. And if you instead soldered BQ24072T onto the board, charging LED would light up but it wouldn't actually charge the battery. This is because the thermistor circuit designed for BQ24072 would make BQ24072T believe the battery is overheating thus suspend the charging.

I got some short of cap near 3471A chip in my old 3ds,
So maybe this chip die ??

is it still shorted after removing the cap? if no, then likely just the cap
Thanks you very much,
removing the cap but still short
--> remove mitsumi 3741A (TI 93045A4) pm ic => still short

so that i confirm the bottom lcd fpc socket, release that and short has gone =((
now i order new TI 93045A4 pmic from aliexpres.

I considered doing this too, but while it seems like an interesting method, I'd recommend against it because the module isn't the most suitable for properly charging/discharging the battery. I ended up finding a spare 3DS from which I was able to extract the charging IC (the BQ24072 used by all 3DS models), and after having it installed by a technician, my console was repaired
