Hacking New 3.52 Modifications

Hello everyone. I just purchased a new Vita that had not been opened. I was curious to see what firmware was on it. It is 3.52. I haven't messed with the Vita before; and so I do not know about the modification possibilities for this firmware. I looked on google and youtube, and found the suggestion that perhaps I can use my own backups on this system without carrying around a mess of cartridges for it. I also found some tutorials that assumed that I have knowledge about this sort of thing, or I did not just open a brand new box, and have not put any software on it at all. I was hoping somebody could point me in the right direction as for the modification possibilities, and some steps to get started.
