If your loading Wii games, Netflix ISO, from usb, your DVD drive is'nt even a factor.
Your ordering and watching streaming video from the internet directly to your Wii.

Well I went ahead and performed the update.
Nothing seem to be broken so far, but then again I have a wiikey installed.
This disc rocks !
Very nice and sleek menu, nice icons, ability to browse instant playing movie or TV, add to your queue, play, rewind....forward....categories,favorites...you name it !
Very well done, the streaming takes just a few seconds to start and I didn't notice any difference in quality compared to my PC hooked up to the TV via HDMI.
When you insert the disc for the first time it connects itself to netflix and gives you a code.
Next you log in with your computer on netflix.com/Wii , insert the code and you are all set ! Ready to go.
I'm super happy, I'm enjoying it so far !

Well! I'm glad it looks and runs nice.

Also, disc updates can be weird, really. When I updated to 4.2 a while back (Waninkoko...

), I remember popping in Animal Crossing (From 2008, a full year behind 4.2's release) and having it ask me for an update. I usually don't treat it like a big deal.

But I can understand the stress. After all, the Netflix disk IS new, and this IS Nintendo we're talkin' about here...

I've been a lurker on the GBAtemp forum for a couple years and have always been able to find what I'm looking for, but I cannot find a solution to avoid updating the NetFlix disc.

I have a soft modded wii with 4.2, Homebrew channel, lots of apps but none that I'm aware of that will prevent a regularly loaded disc from updating upon startup. I have no wiikey mod chip to rely on to avoid updates. I also have never used any sort of USB device with USB launcher. Finally, I do not have a DVD drive capable of reading the NetFlix disc, so I cannot copy any files off of it to convert or change in any way. Everything I have done to my wii the past 3 years has been via SDHC slot.

Now to my question:
Is it possible to play the NetFlix disc with a simple homebrew application to avoid the update?

If yes, please point me in the direction of the app I need to do this.

If it is not possible to play the NetFlix disc via homebrew, then please point me towards a detailed forum or guide on how to intall and use the USB launcher to avoid the updates on the NetFlix disc. There have been several posts hinting at how this is possible, but I can't pull enough information together to accomplish this.

Thanks to all who reply.

Any disc loader will automatically skip updates, I use discs also.
Neogamma, Softchip, etc....
I recommend Neogamma, any revision.
You know you CAN install a loader as a channel, that way you dont need your SD card in the Wii,
I use Neogamma R8 as a channel. Google NeogammaR8.wad and use wad manager to install with.
