My Switch is currently on firmware 6.0. Is there a way to get the NES Game explorer from Switch Online without buying the service and with no connection?

Well, yes. You can. All you need to do is find the .nsp file online and install it. It might need a user linked to a nintendo account, but the nintendo account does not need to have a Nintendo online subscription or even connect to the internet, aside from the initial linking process, I assume.

But really, you're probably better of just getting retroarch, the interface of the NES online is really nothing special and you're missing out on a ton of features by not choosing retroarch.

NES online is as retarded as the guy who designed it and mapped the nes A and B buttons after the switch A and B buttons rather then the Y and X ones.

X and B are mapped identically, though. So you can play like thatg as well.

No. At least you can't get the "real" service without subbing.

The UI is nice. Being able to regroup the games is a good feature. Wish we could do that on the Home menu of the Switch UI without hacks.
Button remapping is something I would like to see as well.

Yes, find the nsp, find the layeredfs pack for extra games and UI mods (there's a bundle on dumbra). You can't play 2-player online, but I haven't missed it.

I would use it more if the NES HUD could be hidden and controls remapped. Who was the idiot that thought those were good features?

I released a mod to hide the HUD, as I've mentioned a few times. Dumbra.

I already have one Switch banned. My other Switch will stay legit for the kids. Wish we didn't need mods for remapping buttons. Maybe in a future update, maybe....

in truth the nes online is pretty crap, but if you want that retro vibe buy nes or snes mini and mod that. in all honesty i only got the online for splatoon.
