I successfully hacked my 3ds with ya'll help, and now would like to ask if its worth hacking a switch right now?

I have my switch from release so I know its not patched, but have looked around for a guide and the site that I used for the 3ds guide says the switch guide is not up to date. Is there a noob guide out there anywhere?

Is it worth homebrewing switch right now, or is nintendo banning people?

Can you play DS/Gba games on the switch?

If I hack a switch can I still use my elgato hd60s to hook it up to get footage.

This is what you call a false alternative.
Is the sky still blue, or are elephants grey?

Can you play DS/Gba games on the switch?
Yes and yes.

Yes.

Read this first to get a concept of what hacking your Switch entails.

Then find a current guide to help you to do so (with setting up emuMMC if you are so inclined).

Also you are definitely in the wrong subforum. Because helping smartphone users out, is not a software project. :)

(Other projects to look up: Icognito (maybe), Retroarch (for gba emulation), melonDS (for DS emulation), switchroot (for DS emulation via Drastic)).

You can avoid a ban if you do the proper backing up, 90dns/stealth mode, staying offline, then resotring old backups. It's a pain though
You can avoid a ban if you stick with android emulation iirc.
Hekate is what youuse to load android and both are loaded outside the switch os so you wouldn't need to worry.
Android also has some of the best emulators available and you can easily play ds and gba games
You could also go for dual boot/ 2 card and add linux, but again, android is probably the most user friendly ban free thing I can think
Also steam link is p aight on switch so you could stream a pc

You can avoid a ban using emuMMC (emunand) together with 90 DNS still (afaik).

You can avoid a ban using switchroot (android - not emulation, but able to use all console emulators for android. ;) ).

The first one is actually convenient. The second one is convenient, if you manage to build an sd card that can house both partitions for android and the switch (requires meddling with partition layouts, tutorials on XDA. Otherwise you'll have to switch sdcards all the time.).

The method to juggle "clean nand backups" to overwrite "hacked system nand" (which was outfitted with 90DNS), every time you want to go online, is not even a real option, it is so bothersome.. ;) So mentioning that for the purpose is - not clever.. ;)

I have the newest update since pokemon sword came out. Is that hackable?

I have looked for a good guide and cannot find any that I trust to be honest.

https://github.com/Atmosphere-NX/Atmosphere/releases

If your firmware version is 9.1.0 search for that on that page, and be amazed of your findings. (Support was added for 9.1.0).

(Unpatchable unit means, that pretty much all firmwares will be hackable/reversable eventually, it usually takes a few weeks time after every new release though.)

In regards to honestly, trust and handholding. And newest and best. How many of us do you think have hacked the switch a week ago and can point you to newest and many trusties?

Get a dongle from aliexpress, find a guide that walks you through installing atmosphere as well as emuMMC. Before you start, put 90DNS into your switch network settings to block all access to Nintendo. (Never take that out of your network settings in emuMMC.or ban. Only use emuMMC for homebrew stuff, or ban.)

Check if its working (and you cant access f.e. the eShop or game updates), before you start modding also. (Otherwise, ban.)

Understand the concepts (what piece of software does what), before following a tutorial., ideally.

Get a Samsung Evo Plus 128 GB or higher (microsd) if you can afford it, also get a separate 32 GB microsdcard just for your nand backup (otherwise chances are you wont do it) (first thing you do, after successfully booting into Hekate).

Now get out of this forum, and lament in the tutorial section instead. ;)

(You brought nothing to the table (not even cared to list version numbers (newest)), conjured up false alternatives (hackable or banned?), wanted whats best support and handholding in the wrong forum. (I have not visited the Tutorials subforum for maybe half a year and cant recommend/refer a priest to attend to your needs for trustTM either.. ;) ))

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Alternatively, you can look into switchroot (Android for switch) only.

Setup will be easy (if you are fine with switching to another sdcard every time you want to use it), bann risk is zero.

(Its like booting a different OS on your switch. Nintendo can/will only ban you if you modify their OS (== do any homebrew stuff on their OS outside of emuMMC (emunand) (which will also run their OS), and go online after.))

edit: And if you are not resorting to switchroot only, format your 32GB sdcard to exfat (thats the one for your nand backup), and the bigger one to fat32 (on windows you have to use a separate tool (f.e.: http://www.ridgecrop.demon.co.uk/index.htm?guiformat.htm ) for that (on bigger sdcards), otherwise you'll run into issues later down the road.)

With switchroot you will clone an image onto your sdcard, so stuff like this gets addressed by that and you dont need to address it yourself.
