So I'm getting into the homebrew scene.
What really frustrates me is that a lot of homebrew won't load on my PSP.

For example,

For PSPfiler5.3, I put the "filer" folder (which contains the EBOOT and such) and it will show the icon in the XMB, I click it, it shows the PSP gameboot screen, then the screen turns black and reboots to the XMB saying "This game cannot start 8002.."

Same with Helicopter Game Clone Version 2, it shows the icon but just won't load.

What am I doing wrong?

For both the above files, I put them in the GAME150 folder and went the the recovery menu and switched the kernel to 1.50, but nothing changes.

The only homebrews I've managed to get working are PSPRevolution, Homer's RIN, gpSP (a modded version, I had the same problem with the actual 0.9), and a CERTAIN version of SNES9xTYL.

Can someone help me?

Thanks

what firmware are you using? do you have 1.50 add-on installed what are the full names/versions of the homebrews you want to load etc
lol need some more info to help

edit: also a lot of homebrews dont go in the game150 folder scince the are written for the slim aswell as phat psp's try putting it in game and changing your kernel back to whatever it was before

xD I just remembered that I forgot to state my info.
I'm running 5.00 M33-4 on a phat + the 1.50 kernel.

I'm looking to install the latest version of PSPfiler.
But all I can find right now is PSPfiler 5.3

And the homebrew game Helicopter Game Clone Version 2

The readme for the PSPfiler says that it goes into GAME150 so I just did that.
The Helicopter one on the other hand won't load at all from GAME, GAME150, or GAME5XX

Honestly, I don't even see what the kernel does. All the homebrews I have installed right now I can run with the homebrew folder set to 5.xx
Like emulators and PSPRevolution I can run from 5.xx :s

ok filer should prob go in game5xx folder since its written for the slim aswell also for further info the kernel setting only applies to the game folder not game150 or game5xx these folders are already dedicated to their respective kernel attributes

some older programs needed the 1.50 kernel, but most homebrew has been updated to run on the slim. so the kernel is not needed as much. i ditched my phat for a slim a while ago abd i have not seen much difference in what will run and what wont. my reason for going to the slim was the dpad, which i think, is better for homebrew. lol

WORKS fine for me!

try my copy link and put it into your PSP\GAME150 folder

you may have some homebrew in too may folders eg .. PSP\GAME150\HeliGame\HELIGAME2\EBOOT.EPB will not work whereas PSP\GAME150\HELIGAME2\EBOOT.EPB will!

Missed that, eh? xP
Thanks koby, I'll try your file. And nope, the EBOOT was in the first folder and not in any further subdirectories. x)

EDIT: The file didn't work for me, koby. >.<
I put it into the GAME150 folder and the icon showed up in the XMB, but after it switched to the PSP gameboot screen, the screen went black and rebooted, saying "The game could not.. 80020148"
I tried with both 5.XX and 1.50 kernels.
For sure it was PSP/GAME150/HeliGame2/EBOOT.PBP

try installing the 1.50 addon for 5.00 m33

link

Instructions: Copy to /PSP/GAME5XX and run.

But I already have the 1.50 addon.
You go to recovery>config>and click the homebrew game folder to change it from 5.XX to 1.50, right?

The game still won't load.

Steamdeck weak performance anymore, and it doesn't officially support gamepass, have to do workaround to get it.

Latest Switch 2 leak says it will have a LCD, not OLED, run most games 40fps max, and only be 1.5 tflops handheld, 3 tflops docked. That's less than the steamdeck at 1.71 handheld, 3.1 docked.

Switch 2 LCD is about like TN type compare to old Nintendo Switch LCD before. Also games running on 40 FPS look not good for us and people. 60 FPS are best for normal everyday gaming. That's weird. I think should not buy Switch 2 because it like Switch 1.5 something like that. Little improve but not major improve. I think going to skip it.

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Yea that's just rumored but not sounding that impressive for a next gen upgrade. Of course Nintendo is very good at optimization of their games to play well, but for a $400+ 2025 console I expected a little better. Even a $299 2020 Xbox Series S has 4 tflops.

I thought it was supposed to be on par with an xbox 1 in power, why is it running most things at 40fps lol
  • Anrei @ Anrei:
in terms of power I thought it was a 2.0 compared to the switch man 40fps sounds whack is there poor optimisation or something?
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Just rumors/ leaks. We will find out in a few weeks. But yea prob way underpowered to save battery, for longer playtimes, like Switch 1 is.
