Hacking need advice on a wii mod chip

i got a wii for christmas and was thinking of getting a modchip to play burned games on it
i would just like to know if my wii stops working (failing to put the mod in, not working properly etc.) how can i fix it and
it would be greatly apriciated (bad spelling) if someone could tell me a what i need to this and a link to a site
that could show me how to install it

As you have just received your wii, you are very likely to have a D2C Chipset with cut legs (you can check that here by entering your serial number, found on the base of the wii). If so, there is only one modchip that you can use: the D2CKey (from the makers of WiiKey)
There are many tutorials on this forum and others for modchip installations, and often the manufacturer provides one.

I don't quite understand this. How you fix it depends on how you broke it...
