Why are NDS roms numbered?

For example.... this rom is called:

5200 - Professor Layton and the Unwound Future (U)(****.***).nds

Why can't it just be called:

Professor Layton and the Unwound Future (U)(****.***).nds

makes it easier to determine how old it is, and when searching for a specific version if you have the right one.

The number is the total rom number. So if i wanted a specific rom and just knew the number, i could find it that way.

1. The number is the scene number. It's pretty much just there to allow organization of games by the time it was dumped. The number doesn't really have anything to do with the game itself.
2. That website stated is technically a ROMsite. You'll need to remove that.

If you dislike the names that roms have then you can of course rename them to your hearts content, but don't forget that the save file also needs to have the exact name or else the save file for that particular rom won't be recognized by the flashcard/emulator anymore.
The reason why rom releases have numbers has been explained in previous posts.

Because otherwise, the scene sites would be a clusterfuck. It's a way of organizing the stuff.
