I want to convert these two video files to any editable format, I looked around for .mods info but didn't really come across much. Does anyone know how to convert them, I tried opening the files up in a bunch of different programs but no luck. Im working on a translation for the Evangelion Ayanami Raising project, that's what these video's are from.

there is a section for rom hacking and translations i will ask mods to move this to there.

did you tried to search on that section? there are great tools about edit a rom and translate it etc..

I probably should not be moving things but this was an obvious one.

Anyway the mods format, I believe it is a newer version of the actimagine stuff (see also VX video and mobiclip). Some people toyed with the headers and understood a few things about it but in short not a lot was ever done. Your best bets are to use an emulator and export it, no real chance of getting it back in though.
What little is known is pretty much summarised in

If you want to add subtitles to an existing video then that is usually more doable, indeed it has been done before for various hacks on the DS and other consoles with unknown video formats. It is quite an advanced hack (it will take assembly) but considerably easier than reverse engineering a relatively modern video format, not to mention writing an encoder for it.

Play it in the game, capture using the inbuilt video capture options that at least the likes of desmume have. If you need later game stuff and can not be bothered to play the game then you can usually rename, relink or overwrite files that play earlier with the later files. You can also try injecting it into other games that support things here though you will want a game developed at a similar time as the format has changed a couple of times.

It should go at full speed as the emulator/capture is fed at the framerate it is supposed to render at.

I just recorded using the desume recorder and the end result was still the same, darn it. Im wondering if any other emulator plays the videos better, got any suggestions.

I was using the wrong codec, it works mostly fine other than the video being choppy at a point or two. About reinserting and renaming the files to see what the other video is, I tried that but the rom got smaller by 50mb for some reason and wouldn't load. I was using dslazy to do this, any suggestions or maybe I didn't do it right.

We'll I don't think subtitles would be needed, people would probably prefer not having them for the intro including me. I just need a program that can reinsert the file without making the rom smaller and not loadable. I'll try a few others out and see what happens.
