If this is an easy install, given the specs it claims it's going to make me very happy I never bit on the UltraHDMI. I can handle some soldering, have installed modchips, opamps, done some s-video and RGB mods, etc. But I know better than to try this.

Yeah I'm wondering what the installation process will be, I'm almost definitely going to go for it, really exciting to see something new being developed

I’d be surprised, plenty of video mods exist for their older consoles.
Plus this one doesn’t circumvent any DRM/allow piracy, the one thing that really gets their ninja’s blood boiling.

Looks great, would love to upgrade one of my many N64’s with an internal solution.

One thing I noticed: TAS support... as in it will allow on the fly mode? I’m unsure.

it wasn't too hard to instal a few of these, but it isn't something id say anyone can do... it needed a god solderiron since high or low temperature bad flux could really get messy

I'd consider myself at an intermediate stage where I probably could do an UltraHDMI install, but putting a vintage console up against a decent possibility of error has not been odds I've been willing to bet on. I've got a beautiful purple "Funtastic" series N64 that it would be soul-crushing to see ruined. But not too long ago I also picked up a much less attractive black/gray Japanese N64, which will probably be the one I go-to for modding. (If I do it.)

Seems cool. But I'm wondering if they expect to actually make money off of it. Not sure how many people actually still have the N64 hardware, and how many of those will want to bother with this. I can walk into any second-hand store here in Japan and get one cheap, but then getting US games would be a pain. My launch day N64 and all of my games were stolen more than 20 years ago. Whoa... I'm getting old.

I would expect the install process to be very similar to be honest. You'll definitely have to solder a ribbon to the RCP as well.

I know, but a man can dream .... lol

What @JaapDaniels said above is also true though - simple availability would make the installation 1000x easier than it is right now with UltraHDMI.

Nah, that basically means it takes the digital video signal before being converted to analogue. Also in general follows the same naming as the PS1 Digital

Yeah definitely something you'd need experience for

Yeah there's definitely some risk/reward to all this

Yeah that's definitely a big thing to consider, I'm sure these will be a hot item

There's definitely a market for it, every console has its fans and I'm sure lots of people want to make sure their childhood consoles are compatible with newer hardware

    Yeah almost definitely

Hmm. Gave away my N64's video adapter but something like this might be nice. Not particularly inclined to pay a lot for it but depending upon what is there it might not be a lot -- it is only N64 games and those have not aged well.

    Re that GIF.
Is drag soldering considered that hard? For my money that is probably one of the easier methods of installing things out there when it starts getting fiddly (anybody can solder a wire to a wire or a giant pad). In that case the plastic backing (usually some kapton) of the wire won't take solder and the pins are hard to bridge (also solder mask... masks solder from going on the board) but sweeping it along the axis of the pins (as in 90 degrees to what you see there and up towards the ribbon) tends to lose those in a hurry should you manage it. Looks a bit flashy if you have never installed a chip (as in anything with legs, not necessarily mod chip) with it but one one or two of those and given a choice you would be doing that over even a nice wire to a debug pad type install (never mind a trace).
Granted I would probably glue down the ribbon and use hot air and solder paste applied from a needle, maybe thin solder if I had no paste, for such an install.

I am disappointed, I thought this was going to be either N64 VC coming to Switch, or an N64 Mini.

    Still cool, just disappointed.
