I've seen a lot of people complaining about the thickness of the 3DS

Let's compare it to the previous line of DS Systems:

DS: 28.9mm
DSL: 21.87mm
DSi: 18.9mm
DSi XL: 21mm

3DS: 21mm

The 3DS is as thick as the Dsi XL and under that of the DSL. Sure, the sandwich color scheme gives the appearance of thickness, but in all actuality, the system is not all that thick. Sure, they could make screens as thin as a credit card some day, but would you want the controller grip to be that thin? Think about it, having a system that thin would put incredible strain on your hands after awhile.

Hell the DS lite feels so tiny in my ham-hands that I wouldn't want anything much smaller.

Some people just aren't going to be happy until they can cut their wrists with the edge of their handheld console when they can't get pokemon to run on it.

XD

I prefer thicker control gripping points. I even bought the Megaman Starforce case for that reason (and the Megaman stuff, of course).

You think this thing need a case or would that make it to big?

It depends on what type of person you are. If you're a scratch-aphobe like me, you'll get screen protectors and a silicone case.

The 3DS sure gives off the illusion of appearing bigger than it actually is. But then again, very few of us actually saw/held one up close.
I'm quite surprised at how small it's supposed to be.

I think part of the reason why it appears to be bigger in the video is because it is curved in on the side. Not sure why Nintendo elected that design.

I didn't mind the original phat until I played some games sideways like Hotel Dusk or Tokimeki, it hurt my wrists because my hands are so small and I had issues gripping it. As long as the 3DS "Phat" isn't going to hurt my wrists when playing games sideways, I don't mind.

I doubt there will be that many sideways games, since holding it sideways ruins the 3D effect, and the screens are different sizes so it would look lopsided.

The current version has sharp edges, they might be uncomfortable. I would love a version with soft, more rounded edges like on the DSi XL. Maybe when the 3DS XL comes out

That only if assume that they will stop doing ds style games.

I think they will still make a lot of ds games with 3DS games.

Not all game have to be 3D or have super graphics

if the L & R buttons are like the dsi >_<
my l and r buttons are always broken.
But .. the thickness doesn't matter.
as long as they make a N3DS xl -.-

Actually, I prefer the thickness of the DS Phat over that of the DS lite.

It just feels so much more natural in my hands, like a controller.

The original DS had better controls and I loved how loud the speakers were. I now only own a Lite but imagine the 3DS will be pretty loud so it will be exciting going back to my older games, re-experiencing them much louder and probably in better quality, even if slightly.
