I was wondering, is it possible to install the browser from the N3DS onto the O3DS? The N3DS browser is very bad and can't view certain websites (like GBATemp ). Where could I get the .cia for the N3DS browser if this was possible? I looked but there are no other threads about this, and I can't find browser homebrew development, either. It would be great if I could install this, but I'm worried that it would mess up (if I got the .cia somehow) and I would have to wipe the SD card. Any ideas?

  • Both browsers are bad.
  • Both browsers run as applet (= can be started while a game is loaded in background)
  • The N3DS has more RAM and the memory chunk for applets is bigger.
⟹ No way to load a N3DS applet on the O3DS. This question has been asked numerous times for N3DS exclusive games (like Xenoblade Chronicles) the O3DS cannot run N3DS exclusive software. Besides… Asking for the browser CIA is not allowed. The browser may be crap, but there's is still Nintendo's copyright.

And :!: Do not mess with system apps :!: They are not installed to the SD but to CTRNAND.
Neither the O3DS nor the N3DS browser will work correctly with GBAtemp. See here.

You may be able to load GBAtemp if you specify "http://gbatemp.net" instead of https. But the O3DS browser is almost unusable on any page.

1. Oh, I didn't know. I thought the 2 things limiting the reason why you cant play N3DS games on O3DS was the input and the RAM. But I thought that wouldn't be an issue for the browser, since I can't see why it would use the 2nd joystick or use so much RAM that it would lag/crash on an O3DS.

2. I know not to mess with system apps, I didn't want to install the new browser over the old one, just install it as seperate and launchable from the Home Menu icons, not the top bar with the Game Notes, Friend List, e.t.c. (BTW the only thing I messed with was deleting Health and Safety info, cause that's fucking crap).

3. I'll try loading GBAtemp without the secure http. Thanks for the info :) EDIT: It works! Badly, but works atleast.

Modern browsers/websites use really much RAM. Just watch the memory usage of a desktop browser when you have some tabs open for some time. It can use several GB depending on what you are doing.

Sadly there is not much demand for a decent browser on the 3DS systems. Sooner or later somebody asks: “Don’t you have a phone?” when you criticize the missing browser. (No I don’t have a phone with internet access.)

I think it would be possible get at least a mediocre browser – but no devs are interested because of the “Don’t you have a phone?”. If running as a full app (not a limited applet) and loading the mobile versions of web pages the console is powerful enough for occasionally looking something up – especially the N3DS.
