Hello guys,
I'm looking for an already modded PS2 in the market, was taking a look at the softmods and hardmods and I think "I get it" now, but just wanted to put some "facts" in my head and maybe you guys can lend me a hand and fact-check me.
First of all I think I'd go for a PS2 slim, preferably 9xxxx or 76xxxx since I could get more chances to snatch a "more life left" unit, as second hand to me is always a lottery, so fat units at this point are ancient and since I don't know anybody who takes care of things like I do, I will always tend to think they were taken care of the worst. Also I need something with as little physical footprint as possible, so the slim is more desirable, due to lack of space.
So with that in mind, am I right?:
1. A PS2 slim can only have a hardrive installed if 7xxxx or below because latter units lack the solder points. As this is a cumbersome job (39+ solder points) and the HD will be hanging out unless some kind of case or spend more money on maybe some 3D printed mod or something (which I don't intend to even if such thing exist), this option is out and I don't really care about.
2. Since the HD is out of the equation, whatever I would get will 100% have FMCB installed on the memory card, no other way to load the CFW. So I'm "at mercy" of an old memory card for the PS2 to be jailbroken.
3. I cannot directly copy FMCB to another card or it's not a trivial files copy; but once "I'm inside" I can simply use homebrew tools to copy from one card to another (this is something I wanna do just in case, to have at least a backup).
4. Whatever the PS2 has (I'm not sure what I will find) I can always install OPL to the FMCB memory card, to well, use OPL.
5. USB loading via OPL has incompatibility issues (FMVs specially) and stuttering due to USB 1.1 speeds of port.
6. Network loading via OPL has incompatibility issues (not every game supported).
7. Disk loading on OPL is the only thing to be 100% compatible, although I'm "at mercy" of the optical drive not dying.
8. If optical drive dies it doesn't matter (except for disks loading) since FMCB or OPL will still work fine, FMCB will "bypass" the need for the drive.
9. If optical drive dies I would have to get a replacement, but I failed to find anything that wasn't just the laser, so I imagine it's kinda expensive and better off buy a new unit by then, or just resort to OPL USB/Network.
Thanks for your time!
