One Piece is just a generic fighting shonen too, just like that Bleach. Although One Piece is a little... what's the word? Cartoonish, so to speak.

There's this anime that stars the tohno siblings, but I forgot the name, it's pretty good they say.

What else... ah! Why not? Pokemon Kanto Series lol

Bleach? I dunno, the manga is screwed, and so does the anime. It's popular, but IDK why, Japanese taste really is different. Almost everything sells there

Watched:
Gurren Lagann (I saw up to episode 5, it was awesome. I should really finish it)
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (loved)
FMA (Watched like... 3/4s of the episodes, it was very awesome)
Dragon Ball Z (watched it when I was a kid)
Dragon Ball GT (Same)
Code Geass/RE (One of my favorite animu, don't care what anyone says)
Soul Eater (Watched about 5 episodes, seems 'OK')
Bleach (No.)
Naruto (NO)
Naruto Shippuden (WAY better than the first show, although I started reading the manga and I'm way further than the anime)
School Days (Saw the first 2 episodes, but my friend loved it, so I think I'll watch the rest)

Like I said, I really liked Death Note and Code Geass. I also thought Gurren Lagann was pretty good, although I only saw 5 episodes. But really, I'm not into mecha at all. The mechs in Code Geass were just a plus for me, I really only watched the show for the story + the whole Geass power thing. I also really liked the Claymore manga. (Not, not just cause of the boobs)

the good thing about healing regenration is that they can make the battles fairly gory. also i had hoped the story would have progressed a bit further.

Well, I haven't read One Piece in along time, the last chapter I watched was about that Zoro fighting a giraffe (damn! how come I forgot? Is the right word "girrafe" or "giraffe" or "girraffe"?), dunno what chapter is it, but it surely is kinda generic, mybe because I'm not into fighting and sports. I prefer comedy and romance.

Isn't after 20th ecntury boys there's 21st century boys or something? Is that one good?

It's semantics really, but most of those aren't hentai (or eroge) games. They fall under a different category and just have a few of those scenes due to preconceived notions that games of those types require some sort of porn.
If you play them for the sake of porn you'll be HIGHLY disappointed. In fact, most of the time the sex scenes are completely out of place and are just there for the sake of being there.

Back on topic.

I don't know about the anime, but I can HIGHLY recommend the Monster manga.

Some anime that I rarely see talked about that I can recommend are:
PlanetES
Last Exile
Everyone I've ever recommended these to have always loved them. Most even go on to rank these two in their top 10 favorites. These people are also the ones who dislike the mainstream stuff such as Bleach and junk.
Both are rather serious, yet relaxed in tone.
PlanetES is set in a world with a realistic progression of space technology.
Laxt Exile is set in a steam punk world.

Mushishi is another anime I recommend. I'm not sure how to describe it other than saying it's a very calming anime with an interesting take on why events both normal and strange happen in the world.
Noir is a somewhat old anime that I can also recommend too. Features gun totting female assassins, conspiracy, betrayal, and an awesome soundtrack.

Speaking of which, Last Exile and Mushishi also have awesome soundtracks.

And finally, one semi-popular recommendation, Clannad and Clannad After Story.
If you like tear jerkers or heartwarming stories then you'll probably like Clannad. Most people will at least shed a single tear at one point or another depending on how susceptible they are to that kind of thing. If nothing else you'll get teary eyed at some point. The anime is based on the visual novel (What most people incorrectly think are hentai games. Especially since this particular visual novel has no sex scenes at all.) and they've finally reached the heavy part of the plot.

Anyway, that's all I can remember to recommend at the moment. I won't bother with any other anime I think are popular. Besides not liking most of them, I'm sure someone else will recommend any of the good ones.

Absolutely Seconded! I don't actually know if it Syndicated in the UK, but last year I got the entire series boxset for about £20. Macross Saga, Masters, and New Generation. Cheesy, but EPIC.

You got the story mixed up a little. Before the final episode aired, there was a girl who killed her father with an axe, which made major headlines. Japan pussied out and instead of airing School Days, they showed some relaxing scenery on the TV for thirty minutes.
