Hello everyone,

I want to try my hand at programming an MSX game in assembly.
Does anyone have recommendations for emulators targeted at development?

Such an emulator would feature a good debugger (visual or console) with support for symbol files.
Being able to start it from the command line, and to reload the ROM without relaunching the emulator and debugger would be a big plus too.

I am using openMSX for now, but I am too new to really judge whether it meets my needs or not.

For the record, I tried no$msx, and it is quite competent.

However, I was made aware that openMSX has a new version 20, and I must say it is a huge improvement over version 19.
They included the debugger UI inside the emulator (it is a separate executable on version 19), dramatically modernized the UI, and improved access to all kind of viewers (e.g. RAM or VRAM).
As of today you need to download the nightly build on GitHub, as their latest release is still version 19. It is really worth it though, and I'd say it is quite better than any alternative I tried when it comes to development.
