v0.03

* added USB storage support (USB reading is dead slow unfortunately, only good for MP3 files)
* added volume controls (Up/Down buttons on the wiimote)
* added wiimote buttons repeat during playback
* added preliminary test network streaming (shoutcast and mms)
* longer filename display in the file selection screen
* fix for widescreen aspect ratio (uses the Wii display settings)
* more audio playback fixes

Can be found on the WiiBrew page
http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Homebrew_apps/MPlayerWii

It's nice that the USB feature was added, but damn the hardware restrictions...

I will start using this once they fix that USB problem, I hope it is soon I really I want to use my Wii as a media player!

i'm pretty sure i read from somewhere that the wii's usb slots are v1.1, not 2.0 meaning they're slower than normal USB slots. if this is the case, then the USb problem can't be fixed and it is just a hardware limitation.

EDIT: the source for this is at tehskeen.com

Sadly, due to the Nintendo Wii's limitation of using USB v1.1 for it's USB interface it isn't fast enough to stream large movies, but works well playing audio files.

Really sad to read this

Last time I checked, there was no way to transform a 1.1 USB port into a 2.0 USB port without replacing it altogether

but they are 2.0 ports, nintendo is just limiting them through the firmware.

Yep, and I'll assume they did that for exactly this reason, to limit piracy. I mean, why else would you limit your hardware via software for no reason?

I don't see why they'd allow USB 2.0 any time soon though :\.

Mainly because they actually use the USB ports only for the USB Keyboard and Mouse support, and 1.1 is enough for that.

Actually, IIRC, there's a device enabled to use 2.0, and that's the USB-Ethernet adapter.

We have to hope that they'll enable 2.0 for standard use.
