I thought we might as well get a decent thread for MPlayer, as it's doing really well and making great progress. The other topic claimed to be "always up to date", but unfortunately it was terribly outdated, so new users had a hard time to find the current version. I'll create the WADs and update this post.

HOW TO INSTALL
Homebrew Channel Player
1. Install HBC with Twilight hack (see WiiBrew)
2. Copy the MPlayerWii folder into /apps/ on your SD
3. Optionally install DVDx for data DVD support (get it here)
4. Start MPlayer via HBC

Install MPlayer Channel instead
1. Install HBC
2. Copy the Wad Manager into /apps/ on your SD
3. Install the MPlayer WAD
4. Optionally install DVDx for data DVD support (get it here)
5. Start MPlayer via Wii Menu
FEATURES LIST
- supports AVI (Xvid, DivX), WMV, MKV, OGM, MP3, FLV (Flash Video), MP4, M4V, QuickTime, 3GP
- supports SDHC
- read video files (not DVD files) from data DVDs
- read video files from USB (connect USB device after starting MPlayer)
- browse files in a network share (SMB) via Wifi
- volume control, searching via D-Pad
- zooming / aspect changes via nunchuk

MPlayerWii is a great player, indeed. But it still lacks on subtitles support. It won't be a success in many countries until it does!

I was just writing a comment asking for it!
Please, i need it! Im brazilian and i need subtitles to watch my series!
Also, i believe lots of people, inculding americans, would love to have the hability to watch mangas on the wii!
 
ok 1 im happy as hell that this can smb now but how do i get this working on my ntsc wii any help would be awesome
 
my wii tells me that this channel cant be used????????????? but when i launch in hbc its fine

i freed the wad and its awesome. if you dont use this program your a poo sniffer lol thanks to all who helped
