Android motorola defy rooting help

Hi everyone I have a motorola defy plus at least im pretty sure its plus. I am running 2.3.6 & really want to root the device. I tried doomlords program but it gave back errors about read only permissions. So my question is what is the best and easiest way to root my phone.
Ps.. How do I increase battery life once rooted

From now on, it's probably best if you head over to XDA to find your answers. Many more people there, with plenty of root knowledge and the same phone as yours.
