I'm looking to pick up a game w/ a very strong mod community with alot of players.
Half-Life 1 was my go to, for a long time. Favorites include Natural Selection and Sven Coop. Its depressing to see twenty people total playing Sven, with the nearest server having mediocre ping.
    Suggestions?

i am aware of this list

Well conslol's have pretty much killed modding, and living in aus we have very small comunitys anyway when it comes to games so mods are even worse but css is good and has a strong modding community hl2, tf2 cod4 they are all fps if you want an rtf then starcraft 1 and 2 warcraft 3 thats all i can think of atm in terms of mp games. For sp you have fallout 3, minecraft and torchlight.

Oblivion has a shitload of fantastic mods, they definitely enhance the game a lot. Definitely check it out, great community behind it.

Warcraft 3 (and eventually starcraft 2 once more maps come out) has great editor and therefore a bucketload of great mods, most of which are still very popular online.

mount and blade has a strong modding community as the devs actively encourage it, also homeworld 2 has some good mods for it and freespace 2 or you could check here

It's not very mod-filled yet. There are some great mods out there, such as the elemental arrow mod, automatic minecart mod, etc...Once the Halloween update comes out, I'm sure more people/modders will be willing to make more mods.

It's not only consoles that have killed modding, its also the difficulty of modding games now these days. [IMG]

Voting for Fallout 3, Warcraft 3 and CSS. [IMG]

Any other suggestions. I've been playing Fallout New Vegas.....with a slew of mods....and it adds SO much to the game. This is one reason I still upgrade my PC. Mods. It would be a travesty to play a Bethesda game on a console.

With the christmas sale coming up and the steam autumn sale closing, does anyone have any other suggestions?
Minecraft and Skyrim are two big ones that come to mind right now. In regards to games with alot of mods, modding capable, etc.
Fallout NV has been the best thing for me for quite awhile. I still miss the Half-Life 1 days with Sven, CS, They Hunger, TF, NS and on.
