So I let it as is (no hacks.ini), at least my console is booting OK. Your guide was OK until hacks.ini. I'll try tomorrow.
Anyway thanks for all your replies, I really appreciate your support.

Quick question:

I have an unmodified Wii right now which I'm going to chip (with d2ckey). Does it matter if I upgrade to latest firmware, installing Homebrew channel etc before or after the chip is installed? Is there anything I shouldn't do in this guide with a chipped Wii?

Thanks //Ola

Hi there, Xzxero. I can't thank you enough for your guide.

I was on an almost virgin Wii with 3.4e and was only able to install bootmii as .iso and the HBC using other guides. I was really confused with what I was reading everywhere but then, on my scarednoob post, tj_cool gave me a link to the best guide there is.

What I really liked about your guide is that it is really noob proof. And you always take the time to answer the questions you're asked. And so do some other people with knowledge.

So I followed all your steps and am now on a 4.1e Wii which has neogamma r7 (as a channel) playing a backup game (Wii music). However, other backups don't work for me. I get a DVD READ ERROR (1101). Sometimes I get it too with Wii music but, after a few tries, I always get it to work. I guess this must be a media problem and already bought some Verbatim DVDs online (I'll get them in 2 days).

1- What is your opinion?

2- I've been searching everywhere for a guide on using the Neogamma r7 but can't seem to find it. I would really like to know about those settings. Can you point me one?

3- One last question: what can I do to make it completely safe to turn on my Wii wireless connection. Nintendo updates leave me a little nervous...

Anyways... THANKS A LOT FOR YOUR GUIDE. I've already posted a comment on my topic telling other noobies to follow it.

PS: I guess now I could change my name to Cautiousnoob

1] google the error code, i dont use neogamma i have a usb loader.
2] its not that hard to understand the options
3] it is safe to have your wii connected online. the only it updates is if you confirm it

Hello again,

Finally I managed to make a hacks.ini (stripped some options) from the official site, it was seen by preloader, activated only 3 options:
[Skip disc update check]
[Remove NoCopy Protection]
[Replace Healthwarning with Backmenu]

saved this and BRICKED!!! I have a black background with a nice white 4.1E on the right corner. Luckily I rebooted again in the preloader, deactivated this options saved, make some incantations and UN-BRICKED :-) . So I'm pretty scared right now in using this hacks.

Here you have the ini file I used. DON'T TRY THEM unless you like risks or one of the masters can confirm that is only a problem on my side:

are you postive your using the correct firmware verison and region??

I have 4.1E, as when I was bricked this is what my black screen said. Now, do I need this hacks?

no they are just extra hacks and brick protection, not required but in a way essential.
its up to the user really.
idk have you tried startpatch?

I really don't know anything about startpatch.

Is it this one?
Run 4.1 Updater [this step can be skipped if already on 4.1]
Press A to intiate the update.

If yes then I skipped as I was already on 4.1 before patching.

startpatch is an alternative to preloader. look it up

I followed this most excellent guide (Thanks, x) and got everything working except

6] Play Wiiware and Virtual Console games off the sd card menu.

When I go to move games to the SD, I get the error message that "The data may not have been moved."

Of course, the data definitely wasn't moved.

How can I get this working properly?

they may sound nooby, but how exactly can I run backups directly from the disc channel?
without..destroying anything in my wii?
very noobish indeed.
uhh get a modchip or install cioscorp, if you know what your doing.
dont ask where to get it or how to use it because if you do, your obviously not ready for it.

xzxero, been wanting to tell you for the past few days that your guide worked almost perfectly for me. I had to use a different version of bannerbomb from the one provided in your package but other than that, it was flawless. THANK YOU!

I know how to get it, but I'd rather not ...rape it with cIoscorp..since I dont really know what to do
as for a modchip...rather not

menu updater doesn't work for me..

I'd like to see instructions on cIOScorp and the pros and cons if I only want to make the disc channel play backups
