I think being banned would be the only real worry, but even then isn't really a deal breaker, if you don't plan to play online then its not really an issue.a few people i think have already modded their consoles and are selling them on
apart from being banned online? is there anything else to be weary about
would rather buy something un modded

Only thing I'd say is if people are advertising them as already modded them you will probably being paying towards the top end of the price range. If you are trying to get one cheap as possible you could try looking for obvious v1 units (White background box, a clear picture of the model number on the back) then you could try being straight up honest that you're looking for a switch of a certain model with a serial number in a certain range. Most people will almost certainly not reveal their full serial to you, but you may be able to convince them to give you just the first 9 characters of the serial, or you could try send a list of the serial ranges and ask them to confirm or deny whether theirs is within that range.
Thanks if the console is banned online
Could i still use it to download stuff from
Homebrew?
Ah thats lucky, its understandable but sometimes people can be a bit funny about that sort of thingMost people r ok so far with revealing their serials
Surprisingly
The ban only stops you using legit Nintendo services.

There are a number of ways that a device's serial could be used maliciously. Most of them aren't really that applicable to the switch but most people don't know that.Yer i dont understand it
What is the big deal about knowing a serial number?

Can be used to fake your identity and make you banned even if you don't deserveYer i dont understand it

And even if you're banned you can use any homebrew you want and play online on homebrew servers like lanplayYer i dont understand it

Nope, you can't do that..to avoid getting banned you need to keep your sysNAND clean and use it for online and legal stuff. For other cfw related things you either gotta use emuNAND (a clone of your sysNAND that runs from sd card) and keep it away from N's servers (which means no online gaming) by blanking your prodinfo or using dns blockers or just simply never go online (which is not very convenient) or you can just not use illegal stuff like piracy, save editing/cheating online etc., that way you can safely use Atmosphere even on sysnand (though there are still discussions about whether its banable or not).So basically is it a bit like mac spoofing?
Im guessing once modded there is a way to ‘change’ the serial number when playing online to help avoid having your own real serial number being banned?
idk where you live but, i hit up several gamestop/eb games and asked to check all the serial numbers of their used switch inventory till i found one. this way you get a virgin system(never modded, not banned). always go for a virigin v1 switch over a premodded one. unbanned consoles are definitely worth more so you should try to score one. Thanks it will probably make more sense once i have actually modded the nintendo switch…
Proving difficult to source an u unpatched switch so far. Most items on facebook are patched and on ebay i lost out on a 2/3 items via last minute bidders
The one unpatched version, that i found on facebook went like a hot cake straight away.
At a decent price
If its on ebay as ‘unpatched’ then it costs far more might start having to do manual searches instead
I bought my V1 from someone on Facebook marketplace for £100, check there daily as cheap switches being sold locally come up regularly.
My v2 cost me the same from eBay.
The Wii u is OK, I like that you can play pirate games online but for all the games that are not online, most good ones have been ported to the switch anyway, I have a Wii u gathering dust.
Prepare to be horrified at what they have done to Mario kart 8 deluxe if you get it, oh boy, its a train wreck with the stupid amount of weapons it has now
My V1 switch is running Atmosphere CFW and Android which rocks, I've used my switch to run a ground station application for an automated Rc aircraft!
If you are good with soldering, the £15 Trinket M0 RCM and payload mod is well worth doing, no messing about with USB cables or dongles and no RCM jigs on the right joycon rail, I just press Vol + and power and my switch boots straight to the hekate boot menu, if I just press power it boots to stock switch firmware.
Thanks for the suggestion
The solder mod sounds awesome but im quite simply terrible at soldering
I had to give someone my xbox 360 back in the days to be soldered
And as for mario kart 8 deluxe lol i will see how i get on.
It is a challenging solder for those who are not regular users of soldering irons and it does require a fine tipped iron but is doable.
My advice if you decided to do it is ignore all those who fiercely argue that soldering everything to the back of the board is what you should do, its not at all hard to remove the board from the chassis and the other side had proper pads to solder instead of risky soldering to microscopic SMA capacitors.
a combination of solder points on both sides of the board is the best.
Im a competent solderer and have decent gear and could have soldered to the one side but why take risks when you dont have to and removing the board only takes 3 mins so mine is soldered to both sides
Mk8 deluxe is ridiculous, you can carry two weapons at a time and not only are weapon boxes absolutely everywhere, there are double boxes as well, at times you struggle to even see where you are going because of the number of things flying around, its stupid but even worse is that you cant go for more than a few seconds without getting hit by something.
Further to that, they have done everything they can to prevent skill getting a win, its luck now as get into 1st and there will be a relentless stream of things taking you out.
If MK8 had used the better graphics but kept the game mechanics of MK Wii it would have been an amazing version but they have ruined it and its now no longer racing with a twist and more just shooting at each other and people get a double box and instead of using things tactically like you had to in MK Wii, people just fire things off as soon as they get them and you have times where multiple people will get both boxes with triple green or red shells and fire them all off instantly and there is stuff flying literally everywhere.
Bullet bills are also out of control, i have seen a convoy of 5 people riding a bullet before and 3 or 4 is a common sight, i have also got a bullet in last place and rode to 1st and won which isnt fair and i have also got one in 4th and then won while still riding the bullet.
The game is pure chaos now, MK8 is way better than MK8 Deluxe but i race online on MK Wii over the other two ( i i have MK8 and MK8 deluxe) because the game is skill based and the game play is so much better despite the low quality graphics.

You have to consider the Mario Kart franchise more like a party game than a serious racing game. If you play with the right frame of mind, you'll have fun playing with family and friends. I don't mind losing, as long as I have fun with the people I play with. The game sold amazingly well (47,000,000 copies), so it can't be as bad as you make it sound.Mk8 deluxe is ridiculous, you can carry two weapons at a time and not only are weapon boxes absolutely everywhere, there are double boxes as well, at times you struggle to even see where you are going because of the number of things flying around, its stupid but even worse is that you cant go for more than a few seconds without getting hit by something.
