My freshly modded Nintendo Switch OLED is getting warm when I dock it in sleep mode. I've got it in airplane mode with Bluetooth and NFC enabled. It's on Firmware version 19.0.1, and I've not really got any idea what the problem could be. The console itself hasn't shown any signs of having any problems otherwise, so I'm questioning whether or not I actually have a problem. I imagine it's normal for it to be somewhat warm if it's charging the battery, but I don't believe that's what this is.

It was booted into an EmuNAND I made, and it was at 97% when it was docked. When I took it off the dock it was at 100%, but it was warm. I noticed it was warm yesterday when I took it off the dock as well. This is a console I got used, and I didn't really notice this behavior when I had it before modding it, but I didn't really own it for all that long or use it all that much. Does anybody have any advice or suggestions? I've not connected it to the internet once since I got it, and I'm led to believe that something could be wrong internally (maybe some copper fragments from the kamikaze method I did are shorting something internally?). I've done a bit of testing, and it seems to be happening regardless of if I'm booted into OFW or into the EmuNAND.

Thanks in advance.

It is working as it should be, if it doesn't shut off then it is fine.
I really do appreciate the words of encouragement! But I had another OLED console that I had commissioned a while back because I didn't yet have the skills or equipment to do one myself. That one was never warm when I pulled it off the dock which leads me to believe there might be something wrong with this console or dock.

I could be gas-lighting myself here though. Is anyone else able to back up if this is normal behavior? Not that I don't trust you, but I'd like to get a number of opinions here just so I know it's not gonna end up burning my house down.

Sorry for the bump/double post, but I wanted to include more information about this.

The console does NOT get warm while charging the battery, only after the battery hits 100% does it start getting warm.
Using Status Monitor I was able to observe an SoC temp of 30.7C, a PCB temp of 34.5C, and a skin temp of 35.4C.
I haven't had any problems with the console or mod chip.

Also, I'm curious to know where the skin sensor is. Is anyone able to tell me? Thanks!

Okay, so after messing around quite a bit to figure this out, I learned that the Switch in Firmware version 19.0.1 gets warmer when docked while fully charged. It has nothing to do with my installation being faulty or anything. I know this because I updated the emuNAND on my other OLED that was in firmware version 18.1.0 to 19.0.1, and it now does the same thing when docked.

Does anyone have any idea why this might be? It's a bit weird to me that they'd update the console suddenly to dissipate heat when docking seeing how it wasn't generating any heat to begin with. This may sound stupid, but it almost makes me wonder if they're trying to slowly kill Switch consoles now that it's close to EOL so people will buy the Switch 2 instead...

My Arista Switch 1 does the same on v20.1.1. and it's also modded, on v19.0. it doesn't do that. I still got no clue what provoked this.

Hello, for anyone having this problem, I have an OLED modded switch with firmware 20.1.1, I was experiencing the same issue and I tried many things, even recreating emuNAND. What I noticed is that, if you have a wired connection, even if you are in airplane mode, the switch will enable the Ethernet port on the dock, you should see this in your router, the LAN LED should be blinking (blink means network activity).

Disable the setting of "maintaining wired connection" in the sleep mode settings, if the switch is still getting warm after reaching 100% battery while docked, it means that this setting is not working properly.

To fix this, at least in my case, simply unplug your Ethernet cable from the router when you are using your switch in the CFW and plug it back, if there is no blinking in the LAN port (router), it means that "maintaining wired connection" is properly off, with this, your switch should no longer generate heat while docked at 100% battery charge.

If for some reason the LAN port on your router keeps blinking, just unplug the Ethernet cable as a workaround and this should fix the heat issue, if you need the wired connection just plug it when you are going to use it.
