Awesome work man!
biggrin.gif

I'm tested it and its very very good. Can't wait to have more updates. I hope someday it will be as good as the original PC version. (Or even better)

Holy F**in shit! Somebody actually pulled it of?! Awesome man! Even though its a demo, I need to try this. If you can get all features in, you will become one of the gods of the Homebrew scene!

So.... How long before the inevitable C&D?
I hope never. This is gonna be good if it's complete. And I think that the guy behind this all will not stop, seeing the large amounts of Praising comments

Been getting the guru error as well, but this is the first release so its understandable. Been waiting for someone to do something like this is a while! Lets hope for slot-2 support for extra ram in the future.

+1

And malloc for the dsi mode.

@smealum : if you plan to add extra feature in a DSi mode version, i will be glad to beta test for you on my iEvo.
Don't hesitate, my son is a fan of this game !

But that's the problem. The better the game is the more likely Mojang will see it as a threat to sales.

I made an account here just so I could ask this, but I tried running this on my Supercard, but with no luck. I'm getting a white screen on the top screen and a black screen on the bottom, but it is unresponsive. Any ideas? I'd love to try this out!

I forgot to mention it in this thread but this uses nitrofs so if your card's launcher doesn't have argv support you'll have to use hbmenu.

(can't give you a link right now as I'm in the train and posting this from my phone

I doubt that Mojang is going to send a cease and desist letter. They allowed Fortresscraft and that was a for-profit game. Plus Notch already said he doesn't mind if people make clones as long as they don't imply that Mojang made it.

Anyways, a Minecraft DS homebrew that isn't even completed and lacks most of the features from the PC version doesn't pose any threat to their sales. Especially, considering that only people who own a flashcart or use an emulator can run it.

Looks amazing. Download now!
Is there anything I can do to help in terms of testing for bugs etc.?
Also, what happens when you try to get to the edge of the map?

Thanks for the support guys.

At the moment not really, but I might need a few testers at some point, especially when I'll start trying to save levels on the flashcard.

I the version that's available for download, the game will crash, most likely.

A lot of people have also noticed that this version also crashes a bit randomly, but as I've said, this is due to a bug that's already been fixed, so no worries there.

kinda offtopic, but happy birthday smealum. good work on this, and hope to see it come to full fruition (as do all of us, probably).

Why does the X button make it go in noclip mode?

I recommend adding a cross in the middle of the screen, just like it is in the real Minecraft.
That way we can more easily know what block we're going to remove.

Is it possible to add blocks yet?

L and R to add or remove blocks.

When I press L, it just removes blocks.
Pretty sure I tried R too.

to the question of true DLC for DS, yeah, i guess that's highly unlikely... unless they opt for something like what the Art Academy cartridge did, and make a whopping 8MB save file.
Why didn't you just use Jam with the Band as your example?
Or Wario Ware D.I.Y.

Minecraft Classic is already free on the official Minecraft site.
What harm could this possibly do if it's only the Classic version?

Especially, considering that only people who own a flashcart or use an emulator can run it.
Which is basically everyone who can play Minecraft.

wut?

Not that many people own flashcarts or even know about this homebrew. The number of people who know about Minecraft and own a flashcart is probably even less.

R is to add blocks. You can change which type of block you add by pressing B/Y. However, if you select type 0 (not sure if you can in that demo, don't remember), it'll do pretty much the same thing as pressing L. Also, adding blocks isn't very practical at the moment as you can only add blocks above existing ones (meaning not next to or beneath), but that's being worked on.

Maybe instead of saving in real-time you could just have a save button on the pause screen?
That's what I think I'll be doing if I can't do it in real time.
wink.gif

QUOTE(FireGrey @ Jul 11 2011, 06:58 PM) BTW why is there a creeper if it's Classic?
No reason really, I was just messing around and at the same time wanted to see whether survival would be feasible.
tongue.gif
(this was just a small test though, so I still don't know for sure)

I never found a Creeper...

OK, I tested this out for a bit and I know it's still in progress but:

The control scheme needs changing. (Or at least an option to change it). Usuing only the buttons you cannot look up/down. And when using the stylus (my preferred method with FPS) you cannot jump (easily). Also, there is no option to strafe at all.
