You know, ya'll can just use the World of Minecraft classic client. It's faster and let's you play offline.

Although you have to create an account there to get it, it's a lot less time consuming than dealing with the online version and having it bug out.

Minecraft also ran smoothly on my laptop until i reinstalled xp on it. The only fix that would work out of those i posted on my reinstalled xp laptop would be the first one about Hardware acceleration. Try to google on how to manually edit it if you have no access to change it. Try logging on a admin account if your not. And again i say it. Google on how to get access to it on how to manually edit it if you have no access. Another hint if you still have issues: Minecraft forums.

EDIT: And update your graphic driver.
Do all of these steps first thanks before replying when your only done halfway.

The manual way to edit it is the way you described, so tick that out.
My graphic drivers are updated; I updated them when this started happening and now it updates automatically (ATI Catalyst Center)
