I feel the only people that say they're not even remotely interested in this are possibly some kind of fanboy... This is called the Illumiroom, does not say the Xbox 720. Could possibly even work with PS3/PC.

Edit: Ah, I see. It uses Kinect. So, maybe it could work on PC still.

What was so fantastic about that? Looked like a fucken disco light and a shitty disco light at best.

I agree, the stuff showing on the wall you couldn't even tell what it was, this is dumb. And besides Microsoft already made something like this over like many years ago, see:

was it MIT? they had made a similar concept whereby you can blur the sides of an image and project it next to the main display and get a very interesting feel.
I really loved the video. But I have a very weak head so no fps with this.

true but it's hard to put in image in focus when the screen isn't a fixed distance away.

Given kinect does IR dots everywhere it would not to a tweak on one of the standard 3d scanning methods to create an out of focus effect that effectively focuses the image elsewhere.

So then first thing kinect could prove to be useful for.... I really did not see that coming. That said I really do like all the little touches like this when I go to arcades (certainly no other reason for me to jump on the skiing game than to get cold air blasted in my face*).

*you might wonder why I do not just go outside where the British seaside will do the same thing for free.... I wonder too.

I remember reading about it when it was just a patent, it's cool that they're actually working on it. It sure as hell does look immersive if you ask me.

It looks fun.

I wonder how it scans the room. I see it projects a grid onto the room and I assume there's a camera somewhere. The article says the system uses the Kinect and a projector. That Kinect we see under the TV set is facing the player and can't possibly see the wall behind the TV or the surounding furniture. They must be using a second Kinect that's facing the TV.

Isn't this just like those tvs with ambient lighting
No. Watch the video.

Funny that Nintendo was once rumored to be working on projection screen last year. Maybe another piece of licensed tech like the kanect and perhaps Nintendo rejected it first again.

While there is no denying this is a cool video, I'm going to hold judgement until we see it used in real games instead of just a demo. Because tech like this tends to look really cool then dissolve into mostly disappointment. Examples being motion control turning into waggle, forced touchscreen controls in DS games for the heck of it, etc...

If it does hold up to its promise I may actually have an excuse to get a Xbox for once. We shall see.

actually it was posted awhile back here in gbatemp when it was just a patent... in the patent itself there was a projector for the whole room and not a single wall...

actually I liked the parts where it added an effect to the screen, not the parts where it made a larger screen, like the snowing or the ricochet of the shooting

It could be pretty useful for GUI's - project your inventory on the wall and you're on-track with all your gear without even opening it. The possibilities are quite vast if this is used properly.

So you are talking about a DS on xbox with a projector...

Well, not exactly a DS - more so an interactive "frame" around the TV, projected directly on the wall, allowing for enhanced management of in-game features without bothering with menus.
what I am trying to say is that the ds does that already since 2006, and the wiiU does it since launch... it's not that good idea as the furniture gets in the way... but to expand the ambient can help the gamer submerge into the game more easily

If the projector can be set up to display anywhere, you can get over that limitation. As for the DS "doing it already" - no it doesn't. I could argue that DOS games did it in the 90'ties because GUI's encircled the game screen. Projectors are not touchscreens, we don't have to attribute every invention to Nintendo.
