Metroid Prime Federation Force announced for 3DS

Check out the trailer for the latest game in the Metroid series, exclusive to the 3DS.

Releasing 2016.

I think they should change the name.
The inclusion of "Prime" in the title really bugs me. It kind of implies that Nintendo oversimplifies the concept of Metroid Prime to being, "oh, Metroid as an FPS," when in reality, that's not the only defining quality of Metroid Prime at all. There's a certain atmosphere, tone, gameplay, and pacing that makes Metroid Prime what it is, and I'd hate to think that, if we ever get a "real" Metroid Prime, it would just be "Call of Metroid: Chozo Warfare" or something like that. The fact that Nintendo insists that Federation Force isn't a spinoff makes me worry even more about that, as well. :( I know that sounds silly, but I have a nagging feeling that might happen.

dang yet another chibi games and this time for metroid prime? i think i just stick around with iron fall

If the gameplay feels good and the story is long and interesting enough (or if there is decent online multiplayer) I will probably buy it. I don't care whether Metroid is on the name or not. Actually, I've never played any Metroid!

Wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo released amiibos of the Federation Force robots as they look so stylish in its mini forms. I'd totally buy the blue or the red one!

Oh boy! Nintendo potentially locking content behind more amiibos, just what everybody wants!

Amiibos can go die in the fiery pits of hell that they managed to escape from. DRM is bad enough, but physical DRM figures are fucking terrible.

You messed up the URL.

"What the fan at home saw was something in the Metroid Prime universe that they weren't expecting,” Reggie Fils-Aime told Mashable. “The reaction has been negative. There's no sugar coating it.”

Fils-Aime, however, contests that the anger would be quelled were fans able to get their hands on the title. Ultimately, he wants the fanbase to trust the company.

"This is an example where fans who aren't able to get their hands on the game may be at a bit of a competitive disadvantage,” he argued. “Everyone who has played what we are showing regarding Metroid Prime, they've come across really pleased. My ask is that fans trust us.

"We're taking our great IP and transforming (aka wrecking) them and making them new again — making them fresh and appealing for the fan who feels they know the franchise. But we're giving them new things to enjoy.

"We believe that in order to propel the franchises forward (backward), we have to be the ones to constantly challenge the paradigms, challenge the conventional wisdom (aka wreck established franchises) challenge what we thought was the essence of the particular franchise, and a particular form of gameplay."

Obviously Nintendo sucks at hardware (WiiU).
Now they suck at software (MP: Fed Force).

I think Nintendo could be in bigger trouble than the WiiU disaster.

Two things could be near fatal for Nintendo:
(1) Apple releases some bluetooth controller that works well with the iPad and turns the iPad into a virtual game console.
(2) The NX sucks.

I just want something like this without the chibi graphics and a good 10 or so player vs mode.

Samus can wait, I'm glad we're exploring more into the franchise than just Samus's adventures. Getting upset just because Samus isn't in it is like being upset Luke isn't in Star Wars Episode 1, it's not called Luke Wars and this isn't called Samus Prime

Why so serious? ......

I am saying it unironically....... Besides Symphony of the Night will never get beaten by any Metroid game......

*dons flame retarded suit* :D

Well, I really want to thrust the company. I am looking for some good rapier.

Hmmm.... hmmm... SoTN is quite good...
But I don't know, I kind of get a different feeling when I play a (proper) Metroid.
I think the feeling of isolation and despair is better achieved in Metroid.
In that aspect, it is a better loneliness-in-space simulation game, appropriate for such a lone bounty hunter.
I don't think any of those is better than the other, they are such great games.
