Are Memorex DVD-R's supposed to work? I finally got the Gamma channel working, I loaded up Mario Kart NTSC and right after the "Watch where you're swinging" warning screen my TV went black for about 45 seconds then said "Disc could not be read, refer to Wii Manual"

So what is the best type of blank media?

Memorex DVD-Rs work fine. I have a handful myself, but they aren't the best media.

Verbatims and Taiyo Yuden are the best, I believe.

I tend to stick with Sony brand as they're not the best, but they work well enough for me. (and you can snag them at Wal-mart for the cheap!)

end up turning into yet another media controversy, I'm sating out of it

In reality which media you use is basically irrelevant. They were all designed for the same purpose.

LOL i didn't want to start a controversy, honest!

I was just trying to figure out what could possibly be the reason why i can't run my backups. I've tried everything.

They work but they kind of suck. They take a few extra seconds to load up, and while they claim to burn at 16X they only burn at 4X instead of the standard 8X you should be using. (half the media's rated speed always works best on Wii)

From my experience, they're fine for backing up DVD's, but I haven't had a single one make a decent backup of anything. If you want a good brand you can find at a store, try the sony -R's, but only made in Taiwan.

Sony -R, 4x speed burning using ImgBurn. Working great here: no weird drive noises nor stuttering nor "can't read disc" errors so far

Code:

add56d6a8504e85dd461d06c5d823780ÂÂ/dev/dvd

Looks like a decent 1:1 to me.

I use Memorex 16X DVDR+ with Imgburn at 8x, no coasters. The only coaster I made was because I was using the computer too much while burning and the safeburn option kicked in.

Hmm.. I wonder if i was burning too slow (2x). I'm gonna go burn another copy of Mario Kart and see what happens.

I just got some Memorex, hopefully they work. I'm going to try burning City Folk, I'll get back to you.

Edit - burned a scrubbed iso of Animal Crossing on Memorax DVD-R at 8x speed, loaded perfectly in gamma backup loader.

In my experience, Memorex DVD+Rs work perfect for me. The only thing for me is that I have to put the iso on one of my old computers and burn it using the burner on that one at 2x speed, because I don't know why discs I burn on my laptop don't work for me. I've tried burning at every speed available on here, so all I can say is play around with it.
