i have a PSP Slim with 3.90 M33-3 installed. whenever i try to play Me & My Katamari compressed, it gets stuck at the initial now loading screen. i've tried UMDGen 4 and PSP ISO Compressor, and the both don't work. I even tried just deleting the update with UMDGen, but it always does the same thing. i can play a clean ISO with no problems, so i'm sure it's not corrupt. i was hoping someone has had a similar problem, or could at least point me in the right direction as i'm kinda new at PSP hacking. btw, every other ISO i've compressed has worked fine, so i have a decent grasp of things.

thanks in advance!

Crisis Core works great compressed for me, and reports i've read on certain tracker sites say it works fine for them compressed.

Likewise, Crisis Core runs alright on my 3.90 M33-3 Slim. Its on the lowest compression though.

For your situation, I'm not sure. The same happened with Patapon, and I switched UMD mode to the Sony. Worked fine afterwards. Maybe you can try that? If that doesn't work, then run it uncompressed.

i got it to work by exporting the file list, deleting the update folder, then importing the file list. all in UMDGen. after that, compression works just fine!

For larger games/faster games, they have to read so fast that they need to constantly decompress causing tons of lag.

Is there like a range for ISO size that will be able to run perfectly in CSO format?

Because I am still unsure whether to compress smaller size ISO to CSO format.

No clue, but if your game is slow and you want to question it, google works fine for figuring it out.

I know that most games up to 600MB work fine for me in CSOs, even some that are larger. I believe it has more to do with how fast the game needs to access the memory that makes it lag if it's a CSO, as it would need to constantly decompress and then read the files, whereas in an ISO you only need to read it.

Another thing to take note of is that for very large games like GOW, you're not really saving space, as the game needs to copy the files within it when decompressing meaning more space (Temporary, but that means taht nothing else can take that place...), so if you say save 200MB, it probably won't be worth it in the end, and you'd probably either lose a few MB space or break even.

During compressing to CSO format, do you guys delete files like UPDATE folder or any other files, or just compress to a level 9 CSO format without deleting any files?
Delete the update aswell. I'm pretty sure it's just a firmware update folder and is pretty useless.

Indeed, the update folder should already be deleted from most releases if you're finding them online, if you rip them yourself then make sure to get rid of it. You can also get rid of a lot of useless movies (I find that in some cases, you have to delete instead of dummy, like in GOW) like end credits and whatnot, also some that are mult-language (Usually EUR releases) can be shrinked by getting rid of all the other languages.

I did try to delete the UPDATE folder for Hot Shot Golf 2 and Echochrome and without compressing to CSO format. The problem is that both of them doesn't load in my psp. Other games doesnt seem to have this problem.

I am using UMDGen btw.

I know for a fact that Me & My Katamari doesn't work compressed as a CSO using UMDGEN. I attempted it myself and failed, but with an uncompressed ISO, the game works flawlessly.

i compressed it just fine with UMDGen. you just have to export the filelist first, delete the update folder, then import the filelist. after that, it compresses fine.

i stated this in my post earlier in this thread.
