Having just looked up a save convertor, I notice it says M3 Simply uses .sav files and M3DS Real uses .0 files... Well, mine saves both .sav and .0, apparently, so what does this mean? Is there some big difference between these two files? If not, why does it bother saving two?

You've seen the difference.
Change one's ".sav" to ".0" and it will transfer.

Don't ask me why they did this. I'm sure there is some reason, but I cannot fathom it yet.

the m3 ds real firmware as of I think 3.4 uses .sav format
.0 was used before it
the gba saves started using .sav as of 3.7 or so, they also used to use .0

there should not have .0 on your card if you used a firmware after those version
you should really have the latest ver anyway
