Hacking Luma3DS game patching not working on cartridges?

Hi,
I have a japanese 3ds LL and today I got 2 usa region games. when i put 1 of the carts in and launch it, i see the "red 3ds loading screen" for a few seconds then get an error. the other cart gets past that screen, screen goes black then i get a different error. I do not have it with me right now but I can attach pictures of the error later. game patching is already enabled in luma and im on the latest version too. any help is appreciated.

Patch with what?

I managed to make it work. I was only trying to play a cartridge from a different region. I got past the error message and was able to play the game by using luma locale switcher and changing the region and language of the game to match the cartridge
