Well, im looking for a good, interesting, and serious anime.

I just got done watching death note and loved it, i've tried watching many others but they're too stupid.

None of them for some reason can stay serious they always end up doing something like this and ruining the whole scene...

I have looked at the anime essentials and i was wondering if anyone could out of the lot of those pick a good one out?

I also enjoy lengthy animes, like ones that dont end after about 16 episodes. I also dont mind it if its in Japanese as long as there are subtitles.

Sorry if this topic is out of place or unwanted.

You're being too vague about what you like. How about a list of anime you like and didn't like? That would help out a lot.

Hmm, i'm going to check out Code Geass then.

Another anime i liked was Elfen Lied even though it was only 13 episodes.
I also liked afro samurai.

Bleach, Naruto, and One piece are all no....

For someone who likes Death Note, I'd agree with some of the previous posters on Code Geass. The first season in particular contains some clever and elaborate schemes that remind one of Death Note.

As for other serious anime, I'd also suggest Juuni Kokki (12 Kingdoms). It has a very rich fantasy world that you hardly see outside of books. The best part about the series is that not everything is explained. In some shonen romps, you basically tear through like a JRPG and find out about every esoteric nook of the world. In this, there are countries acting behind the scenes and while you get a very solid story, you still have to piece a few things together yourself.

A personal favorite of mine, I'm quite fond of the the original Mobile Suit Gundam as well as Zeta Gundam. Y'know when it was still a good war story, and not just a mecha porn fest. : )

Moving farther away from your comfort zone, I'd also recommend Akagi. It's a mah jong anime with young guy who is swept into the evils of underground gambling. Kaiji and One Outs (that one being a baseball anime) are also very similar. I'm actually really liking One Outs at the moment, but Akagi still is #1 for me. Unlike Prince of Tennis where middle schoolers develop cosmic powers, these delve more into the psychology of gaming. Using clever plots, ploys, and tricks to undermine people that are supposedly at the top of their game.

Last, but not least, is Higurashi no Naku Koro ni (and the sequel Kai). A graphic murder mystery series that was initially a series of graphic novels. Unlike the usual harem fest, these get very graphic, very quickly. If you can stomach the weirdness, you'll find a very intriguing mystery.

Monster and Neon Genesis Evangelion. Oh, and Ghost in the Shell and Lain.
Altho as an FYI I have not watched either monster or NGE, only read the manga, which are amazing, so I assume the anime are too.

Last Exile was a rather good serious one, I don't really remember what it's about (steampunk fantasy setting, something to do with a war, sorry it's been a while, google it). I remember it doesn't properly get started until 5 episodes in though so put up with the slow beginning.
