The G6 Real had bare pins (IIRC it was the first flashcart to do this), and every cart GBAlpha has released since then (M3 Real, M3 GBA expansion, iTouch) has had bare pins as well.

and the next R4 batches had at least less pins, so the M3 Simply joined the crew

Here's my 3-in 1.

So, this is the DS lite version? I've never been able to fit the Phat version into a cart. (Though I just got a Dremel recently...)

Did you put the lite version in there or is it the Phat version? I kind of want to do the same with mine but it seems like the chip is a bit too wide. That's a great donor cart by the way.

PizzaPasta, here's how I fitted the 3-in-1 lite into an original Phat cart.

Snap all of the parts circled yellow, and place double sided foam tape as shown in the picture.

You will have to remove the battery and replace it like shown in the picture, also you might have to keep adjusting the rumble motor so it doesn't hit any part of the inside of the cart.

And thats it, all you have to do now is put the cart back together, and you have your 3-in-1 Phat.

If a game is flashed to nor, i'm pretty sure you can use it on a gba.

Flashing a game to NOR makes the 3-in-1 act like an original GBA cart when using it on the SP.

Nice, I'm going to track down a decent donor cart and hopefully get started soon. Thanks for posting this. I'm half tempted to use one of my Famicom Mini carts... eh, maybe not.
