LG Phone Tools?

I got a LG Chocolate 3 phone and I need some help. On my old RAZR, I could take any sound or song and make it my ringtone. The only way I can find to make a custom ringtone on my Chocolate 3 is to send the file to myself in a text message and then pick save as ringtone. There has to be a way I can do this without texting myself. I haven't tried messing with the background yet, I hope that won't be as difficult as the ringtone.

I believe bitpim supports the chocolate 3 so I would download that (confirming first that it supports the chocolate 3, sorry, too tired to do that myself right now). Bitpim works great, exceeding the user friendliness of the equivalent tools distributed to developers - like MPT. It also supports bluetooth if you are in to that sort of thing.

EDIT: sorry if this is incomprehensible in some aspects, I am at the point where I looked up how to properly use "let alone"
