Leap Motion reveals super-accurate motion control tech

Apologies if this was mentioned on the source but any word on the latency?

Accuracy is all well and good but virtual hand being 60ms behind the real world is a bit of a dealbreaker if we are going to extremes of accuracy for most of what I would care to do at least as a primary method and if I want a toy I have already got that for cheaper with a proper software ecosystem.

On the other hand if they can combine it with http://www.ted.com/talks/tan_le_a_headset_that_reads_your_brainwaves.html then $70 might well be toy money.

Didn't MS snap up Johnny Lee Chung to head the Kinect project after his VR head tracking vids with the Wii? When I clocked this vid, I thought exactly as you did and thought they'd snap this up too.

I was wondering the same myself, and I found this hands-on article by Wired, saying the latency is "imperceptible" (or maybe Wired's reporters are just too sluggish themselves to notice it). According to the developers, half of the perceived latency (between the fingers and the screen) is due to the refresh rate of the screen they used in the demo, a quarter is due to the latency of USB 2.0, and a quarter is the latency of the device hardware itself. No numbers are given.

Your forgetting a few details. The device originally marketed to Nintendo had it's own dual core processor and 512mb of ram. The wii not powerful enough to support it on it's own. Nintendo turned it down cause at the time the processor would of made the thing too expensive for them to sale to market to gamers.

The XB360 doesn't need the processor and thus Microsoft decided to remove it and reduce the ram. However the non-slims can't make full use of the knect's ram cause of the lack of a strata port, usb 2 just isn't fast enough. Thus the reason for slightly-medium lower graphics/realism on knect games and some slight lag on non-slims. Removing the processor also reduced the tracking ability a bit. The tracking with the processor was said to be so accurate, it could track the movement of a threads of hair on a person's foot.

The rumored Knect 2 is most likely going to be similar design to the device shown to Nintendo with the CPU and Ram amount restored.

i would love to see keyboard and mouseless desktops. i was gesturing while reading to try to scroll down to see how it would feel, and i think it would be awesome.
 
Could this be used at medical schools? It's far fetched but couldn't this be applied to 3D virtual surgical procedures for better accuracy and more realism?

I know they've been trying to use the Kinect for just that purpose, so yeah, that definitely seems likely.

The Kinect? Nah, they're too busy dancing.
