Is there a reason this series follows the microsoft convention of naming things? (meaning: going all out with words, woolly subtitles and then back to numbers that totally don't match up)

Been interested in trying this game out for a few years now.
But I have a general dislike for most things that are related to anime/manga.
Also the friendship talk seemed very annoying to me.

However, I do love me some Disney.
Could anyone tell me how much of this anime/friendship talk is part of the games?

Don't feel like spending money on something I might not enjoy most of the time.
