Hardware Just received PS4; first impressions

So, I got my PS4 today from the Taco Bell sweepstakes. So here's my first impression for you all...





It doesn't work. Dafuq, Sony and/or Taco Bell?

I enter the game it came with, Knack, and then I hear a whirring noise. That continues for a while, then the sound of a cd being ejected (without it actually being ejected) is heard, and after waiting a while, an icon pops up saying "Unrecognized disc." I tried googling my problem, and since the PS4 is new, there are no posts on the subject that aren't about the 360. And before you ask, no, the disc's flawless, and yes, I got the day 1 update.

Update: tried entering a DVD in the drive to make sure it wasn't a problem with Knack. The DVD came from an unopened case, so it's flawless too.

That's about a broken display. My PS4 is working perfectly except for being able to run discs. I did install the 1.5 patch before trying the disc. Maybe they rushed out another firmware that ruins consoles like they did beforehand.

Contact Sony in a day or two. I'm sure the 2 year warranty still applies to Taco Bells PS4s.

Probably going to wait a bit before buying one now and glad I didn't get that one.

That's what I'm gonna do. Right now I'm re-initializing the console (even though I know it won't do any good), and then I'm gonna contact them. Luckily their live chat is open for about four more hours, so who knows, maybe I'll be able to actually play it...

Sorry to break it to you friend, I just got off the phone with sony, you will have to ship them the ps4 for service yes it is a real pain in the a**, so now almost a month no ps4. There's nothing you can do but send it for service, I didn't even get to play. What a let down sony.

I guess I was the winner for a $400 paper weight! Just what I was lookin for.

Shame really. I hope this isn't too much of a widespread issue. Kotaku has a fix for the no display issue but I haven't seen reports of a faulty disc drive other than this one. In the mean time that free month of PSN plus could get you a little playtime on Contrast/Resogun.

Just a update I woke up this morning and wanted to give it another try, placed cod ghost in, and believe it or not it fixed it self I'm currently playing. Now I'm not sure if I should send it out to sony or just keep it

Try it out more and see if the issue crops up first. The could have just hung up before.

I'm waiting for my PS4 to come from Amazon.

nothing new about launch devices being DOA / or not fully working correctly, the only kicker is that as you won it in a comp it's gonna take a while for a replacement...................sudeki300

My PlayStation 4 is also Not Reading Discs! No blu-Ray, not assassins creed 4 (fresh out of box)... Nothing. Come on Sony! I froze my butt off last night waiting for this thing.

Lol, as have been explaining to people. People are always so anxious to buy consoles when they release, and I've been telling ya'll that they usually have faulty hardware or some design flaw but no I was wrong, ya'll were right.

Now you have to pay for the consequences....hehehe..."pay"...

Except two of the posters here that have had problems both won their PS4s. Am I supposed to just throw it away because it's a release console?
