Hi, for years we used a Juniper 210H router at one of our locations to provide a point to point VPN to our base in the US via a local ADSL line. Last month that location closed down and the ADSL line (and static IP address) was also closed.
We are now looking at using the router to provide a similar function in a different location. Assuming that we don't get the same IP address this time around, our US engineers will have to connect to the router to reconfigure it.
Their suggestion is to connect the console port of the router to the COM port of a PC on our network. This requires the console cable which came when the router was originally delivered. Guess what? At some point that cable has gone walkabout.
Would I be naive to assume that any old ethernet cable with a DB9 connector would serve as the console cable?

Any old Ethernet cable with a DB9 connector would serve as a console cable for your Juniper router. The console cable used for Juniper routers is not a standard Ethernet cable. It is a specialized cable designed for console connections and has a DB9 connector on one end for the router's console port and a different connector on the other end for the PC's COM port.
Using an incorrect cable could potentially damage the equipment or lead to connectivity issues. It is best to obtain the proper console cable specifically designed for your Juniper router model.
