So I got an 8gig 4th gen iPod touch

One problem though: With all of Apple's preinstalled garbage, it's only 6.46 GB and I've been wondering if an external memory expansion would be possible. (not going to open up the iPod)

I don't care how big or how hideous the external solution would be, I wouldn't even mind if it was an SD reader or whatever, all I need is some extra space in which I'll store stuff I don't use everyday.

Google hasn't been much of help and only made me more confused. Any ideas?

Thanks guys.

Actually he does have an option without opening the iPod..... buy a new one that has more space.

Those are really spendy.

You're better off just buying a separate MP3 player for movies and music with expandable memory and a MicroSD card. You're just sort of proving to yourself that the iPod Touch was a really bad investment for what you want out of it.

Either that, or suck it up, get a compatible internal HDD, and mod that sucker. Those tend to go for far less than those external solutions.

Edit: Scratch that shit. Don't even think there are internal mods.

tl;dr - Pay out the ass for the external solution listed above (that has to go everywhere that your iPod Touch goes), or get a different player that does more of what you want for a lower price.

Of course you have option to use cloud (examples: dropbox, box.net)
And must be permanently connected to WiFi if you want to access those files...

Does the Camera Connection Kit work with iPod Touch or is it iPad only? It has an SD adapter and a USB adapter and with jailbreak I'm sure there's a way to make use of it for music, videos etc.

Are you sure? Because I have used dropbox in my school without WiFi

If you want to access files stored on the internet, you must be connected to the internet. I would have thought that was exceedingly obvious.

If you have downloaded the files from your dropbox account onto your device, you can of course access them without being connected, but that defeats the whole point, seeing as they would be taking up space on the device.

@ OP,
check out Airstash or zoomIt.

CCK is ipad only, but it can be use to transfer photos from ipod touch to ipad and not vice versa. don't get those generic all-in-one CCK,some of them are useless.
CCK is good, especially if your ipad is already jailbroken.
