Hacking iTouch 2: Cheats not Working

Ok, I've been trying to figure out how to use cheats on my iTouch 2 and I can't get anything to work.

The cheats.db that came with 3.8a firmware didn't work (that's the only firmware I've used, I got my iTouch 2 last Thursday) and the one from GBAtemp doesn't work either. I've tried Switch On, but when I hit the key combination to turn things on it doesn't work (L + Select, or R + Select maybe) and Always On doesn't work either.

Is there something I am doing wrong?

No but I just figured it out. I didn't quite understand the controls and I didn't see that you had to go in the top corner and select the cheats you wanted by hitting this button...
