I've had my Wii running USB GX for years now but just recently have had problems with some of my favorite games locking up.

I think it started happening after a batch of changes required after an accidental System Update to 4.2u. I had a confusing time getting everything to work (or so I thought) again.

I'm thinking it's a problem with what versions of what ios are running. You guys are way ahead of me on this stuff. I was hoping that someone could look at the following sysCheck dump I just made and point out anything obvious.

Thanks

Ted

backup loaders only rely on the cios nothing else, your cios is old and usb loader GX hasn't been updated in forever.

update to rev20 of cios with base ios 56 and switch to configurable usb loader or wiiflow and see how that goes.

are you sure something hasnt changed in your hard drive's sleep settings? in my experience, cios problems evidence themselves by games not loading at all, not loading and then locking up.

your 249 is about 6 versions behind though, i see...perhaps an update is in order.

the best option i suggest to people is run x-flax's "modmii" and update all ios's to the newer versions needed for newer games to work.......u will find it on this site just look around.

If by locking up the TS means during game play then this will not be applicable. Out of date or missing IOSes will evidence themselves by simply a black screen. Highly unlikely that if cIOS 14 was fine before it would suddenly be a problem. Heck I am on rev9 still with no issues on any game. I also go with the hard drive being the problem.

Thanks guys. I'm going to use modmii to update everything. I am starting to suspect the HD also. I'll probably reformat the HD and see what happens.

I also seem to be having issues with the SD. Formatting and writing to an SD on my PC then writing to it on the wii makes it unreadable back at the PC. As a hardware Eng. I wonder if there is a peripheral timing issue effecting both the Usb and the SD hardware. Is there a defective ios in my wii?
I'll post my results in a day or two.

Well I used modmii to update and things have gone from bad to worse.

Using Conduit as a test game which always worked perfectly before, it now has no sound after the intro and no control (no wiimote response ).

Any ideas out there?

if you're able, it would be easier to just update and start fresh.

personally, i recommend some flavor of sneek with the di module.

Stick conduit on a correctly formatted USB drive and see if it performs the same. That way you can determine if the hard drive is the issue.

What filesystem is the drive formatted as? Are there any other partitions -- are they having problems? If only some of the games are breaking suddenly, there are 2 likely cases: the drive is failing (bad sectors, not as likely) or you need to run chkdsk /r /x z: before you do anything else. I've had drives get errors plenty of times (I suspect flaky homebrew, or FAT libraries) but only a few have had bad sectors.

Go run chkdsk now.

Then, if you're still having problems, get Wii Backup Manager. Go to Drive 1, pick your drive and choose Tools -> MD5 Hash -> Verify all.

I've got a parity batch file I wrote that automatically fixes this (creates parity and repairs if needed) if anyone wants a copy.

edit: can't type
