Is it worth it to flash your DS just to get rid of the health and safety screen?
I'm not really worried about the risks, but I don't have a slot-2 to repair the DS incase.
Just wondering what you guys think.

And is it true that flashme breaks sleep mode for flash cards?

I flashed my DS recently and I think it was worth it a LOT. The health screen gone is great. I have a slot 2 card so for me, auto booting is a god send. If you have a Slot 1 it is not as important but if you have a slot 2 I would say it is GREAT and almost a necessity IMO.

And about the sleep mode, Flashme actually FIXES sleep mode. Not ruins it. I don't know where you heard that from. Slot2 cards don't support NDS sleep mode and flashme fixes that. For slot 1s the sleep mode is already perfect and flashme doesn't do anything to it.

Good luck if you decide to do it.

Slot-2 devices support sleep mode just as well with or without FlashMe. The main thing to remember is that if you don't have an actual cartridge in slot-1, sleep mode in commercial games won't work. Inserting any official cartridge fixes it. It doesn't matter whether you have FlashMe installed or not, it still depends on the presence of a slot-1 cartridge.

As for the actual question, I'd say it's worth it. It's nice not having the warning screen there. If you get the "no autoboot" version you can use a slot-1 device for emergency recovery as well.

Odd, I've been trying to run recovery with both standard .8a and the noauto version and neither will let my R4 load .nds files.

I've heard of a user who used an R4 encryption tool to encrypt FlashMe.nds so that it was the first thing the R4 loaded instead of its firmware. Using this method, the failsafe button combo booted FlashMe.nds from his R4's microSD card and let him reinstall FlashMe.

Yes, DanTheManMS's suggestion worked. Enrypted flashme_noauto.nds with r4denc by yasu and renamed to _DS_MENU.DAT, when the R4 is booted using the failsafe, it loads flashme. Now to get my hands on a bricker so I can play.

I didn't understand that last part. Why would you need a brickeR?

So I can intentionally brick my DS and recover it. Don't ask. It's a twisted obsession of mine to intentionally foul up things like bios flashes so I can test various recovery methods.

I have the same strange obsession, but it's a good way to learn how firmware actually works.

EDIT: Well, not only firmware I guess, there's a lot of things you can learn.

Good luck. I have never heard of people that like to miss with destroying their product. I really wouldn't take any chances still even if I had recovery mode. What if something beyond your control happens? Then you would be pissed that you intentionally bricked your DS.

Who said anything about destroying my DS? I know full well what I am doing. I also have a spare bios chip that I can hotswap to fix it, should anything go wrong.

Anyway, I already bricked it by pulling the battery while flashing it. Recovery worked like a charm. Now to play with my newly acquired brickers.

Crashme? Or did you make one yourself?

Trojan.DSBrick.A and Trojan.DSBrick.B.

**EDIT**

I apologize if I seemed dismissive of your recommendations. You made some very valid points and I would have to recommend that nobody try this unless they are absolutely confident in their ability to recover.
