Hey guys I’ve been using retronx with an exfat formatted sdcard. I’ve read a few threads about exfat corruption but it hasn’t happened to me... yet. The threads I read were a few months/weeks old. Is this still an issue? Has it happened to you?

I get corruption like every other time a homebrew crashes. :)

    Why would people want exFAT?

It makes it easier to use the same as card for backups and hombrew. That’s why I use it anyways. I’m not opposed to using Fat32 but I’m not sure how I would fit my XCIs on there without splitting them

Currently the way would be to install them through the network installation of tinfoil.

Other users also had success with install there games on an exfat formatted sd card and afterwards copy the installed games from the exfat sd card to the fat32 formatted card. Although that sounds quite bothersome.

So if one is using exfat with XCI's and NSP's but not using any "homebrew" apps, does that mean you won't get this corruption? Or does it still apply? Like if you are running an NSP from the card formatted exfat and a game crashes.

I too have an exfat and using retronx. I've also heard about the corruption but haven't had it happen to me, yet. Whenever I play my games on the retronx, I always make sure that when I'm done playing to close content first, and then quit retronx, then I hit the home button to go back to the switch home menu. I think if you quit your game by taking a shortcut by hitting the home button, because it's not being closed properly, can cause corruption. I can't really say for sure. But from my experience, I've been making sure I quit games properly and so far, after about 2 months now I haven't had any corruption. I did make a backup of my SD card though just in case I do get a corruption. I highly recommend you do the same just in case.

Yeah, that really sucks. I don`t know if there will be a solution soon. But for the moment I`m considering having a SD on exFAT for Switch backups etc, and a SD with FAT32 for emulators etc. But it is a big hassle to keep changing the cards. So far, using exFAT and no corruption until now.

I actually thought the same. One SD card for switch games, and the other SD card for Homebrew. Switching SD card was just too much hassle for me especially since I also have a protective case I would need to completely remove if I want to take out the SD card. I ended up just sticking with exfat. Just make a backup of your SD just in case.

What’s your opinion on just converting to FAT32 for both backups and homebrew and just splitting the XCI files so they fit on the Fat32 system? That way it’s still all on one sd card and you’ve mitigated the likelihood that it gets corrupted.

Well for one, all my games are nsp. I much prefer it as I can just switch games on the fly without having to go to sx os menu every single time. It's also been tested that nsp has a faster loading speed compared to xci. Also, you can't transfer more than 4gb with fat32 which means I would need to split the files, and I can't do that with nsp formatted games. Once sx os supports splitted nsp then I'll probably switch to fat32.

I've been using exfat for 2 or 3 months now and I've yet to experience any kind of corruption. I kind of suspect it comes down to what brand SD card is being used. I've seen corruption talked about numerous times on here but I've never seen anyone state what brand SD card they are using.

I never thought about that but you might be right. I have a SanDisk (400gb).
